Stevens, Route 4, Box 260-B, Medford. e ,e Nurse Promoted Corlnne D'Albini, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Q. D'Albini, 45 Quince street, has been promoted to first lieutenant in the army nurse corps. Lt. D'Albini, who has served with the Third army for the past six months, wrote that she had been granted a . three-day leave in order to make a trip to Paris. She has been overseas about a year. Hear from Officer Frank C. Preston. Anolegate, yester day received a letter from his ton, First Lt. Frank (J, jrresion, first to arrive since he was re ported seriously wounded last - month. The officer wrote that his rather serious chest wounds were caused by shrapnel when a shell struck a tree near him but that he had received excellent medical treatment and was re covering. The young man also praised the work of the Red Cross in the Luxemborg- hospi tal where he is a patient. Young has arrived in San Francisco after .16 months in the - South Pacific and his wife left last night to Join him. The two will return to Medford In about two weeks. Capt. Young is a marine pilot and is the son of Harvie Young, 513 Beatty street. Traffic Accident An auto mobile accident at 10th and Orange streets Sunday morning involved automobiles operated by Mary Burke, route 1 Box 226, and Edith Hannah Arnold, 912 West 11th street according to re ports filed by both drivers. No damage was estimated by either party. Traffic Violators Fined $2.50 for double parking In lo cal court yesterday was Mrs. Elsie Maxwell. They were Jens Jen sen, Bill Peek and Vern Van dyke. , New Residents Coming here this week to maKe his home was Marion Fischer, a former chief commissary steward In the navy. Fischer was honorably dis charged recently after a long tour of duty and brought his wife and children to Medford with him. He is employed as a salesman at Beck's bakery. Dr. and Mrs. Elliott enjoyed a visit with Dr. Elliott's son, Jim, who Is attached to the Bremerton Naval Hospital. . e e Accident Automobiles driv en by Darr'ell Riggs, 1104 East 11th street and George Pence, 837 West 2nd street were in volved in a minor accident Mon day on 6th street near Holly shortly after noon, according to a report filed with local police. Rlggs was pulling away from the curb, the report said, when his car was sideswiped by the other vehicle which was com ing down 6th street. Amount of damage was not reported. FIRST AID CLASS STARTS FEB. 14 A First Aid class will open at the County Court House Audl toriumi on Wednesday evening, Feb. 14. Classes will run from 7:15 to 9:15 p. m. instructor will be John C. Preston, who has had several years of experience as ah in structor in Chicago with indus trial firms and neighborhood groups. He is now with the Pa cific Bell Telephone Company in Meciiora. Mr. Preston is also a qualified Accident Prevention Instructor. Maurice Tedrow. chairman of First Aid for Jackson County announces that the class is open to the general public. Men and women as well as to all high school students who have to make up First Aid work are invited to attend the class which will be conducted twice a week at night. DR. Guy Talbott, Pacific coast director of the World Alliance for International Friendship through Churches, who died here yesterday shortly after he was stricken with a heart attack. Hedrlck superintendent of schools has announced. In con junction with a national drive, other agencies cooperating with local schools are the American Legion, the Legion Auiliary and local churches, Hedrick said. Citizens of Medford are re quested to turn over to school children any items of clothing not needed for a general collec tion on Wednesday. All articles should be mended and in good repair. Shoes should be paired and tied together so that they can go into immediate use.. Win ter and summer apparel for all ages is urgently needed, Hed rick said, but should be practi cal in design. Blankets and bed ding are also a relief "must" for the Russians and are wanted on this collection. All contributors are urged to tie clothing in bun dles with stout cord. The drive, which will be or ganized much as the recent pa per drive, has a classroom quota fixed at one pound of clothing per student, with rooms of more than 50 students assigned a 50 pound quota, the school author ity announced. Rooms that fell behind on quotas for the paper drive ' have an opportunity to earn a holiday on this drive by doubling their quotas on old clothes. Ruth Nutter Begin Work At Naval Air Station In Hawaii V. S. Naval Air Station, Ka hulul, Maui, T. H. Ruth Nut ter, WAVE Seaman First Class, of 826 South Central St., Med ford, Oregon, has started to work as part of the first large con tingent of WAVES to be station ed at this air station In the Pa cific. With nearly 100 others, she arrived at the Naval Air Station, Puunerie, Maul, on January 8 after a flight from Honolulu, where the first group to serve outside the continental limits of the United States landed from a large transport ship. She was subsequently assigned to this station. Seaman Nutter is the daugh ter of Mr .and Mrs. Charles A. Nutter of 1114 Stevens street, Medford. Mac nab of Portland, chairman of the Pacific Northwest division of the National Ski Patrol sys tem, expressed a desire to organ ize a ski patrol for this area. The group will meet Wednesday evening, February 7, at the Chamber of Commerce, to per fect the organization, select offi cers, and make plans for a train ing schedule. Macnab pointed out that Med ford was the only area not now covered by such a patrol. Object of the ski patrol Is to have a civilian group of men, experi enced in mountaineering, and able to travel in the mountains under any conditions, to serve as aids to the military in reaching any plane disaster where there Is a chance to save life. Attendance Urged Any person interested In the patrol, whether he attended the Sunday meeting or not, is urged to attend the meeting Wednes day, when further plans on training and organization will be discussed. .
