The district tournament is slated for the Southern Oregon College of Edu cation gym In Ashland February 23 and 24. Ray Henderson's eighth grade team will play Ashland eighth graders In the preliminary, be ginning at 7 o'clock. They have met three times with Medford winning two and Ashland one. If Hcnderspn's team can win to night it will cinch the southern Oregon eighth grade champion ship but an Ashland win will throw it Into tie. 1 Medford high school's Black ! Tornado basketball crew Is all primed for their clash with Sa lem Vikings on the local hard woods tonight, beginning at 8 ; o'clock. The Tornado came through their lop-sided conquest of Bend last week-end In grand '"shape and Coach Al Simpson , announced today they are ready tot their third meeting with Sa lem this season. Medford won tthe two previous encounters r played at Salem December 24 ! i-and 30. I '. According to the grapevine, Salem has shown considerable j Improvement since their early .season mixes with the Tornado and has beaten several of the upstate teams recently. The Vik ings use a three-two zone de fense and will present the same lineup here as faced the Tornado t Salem, according to word re ceived here. The Vlklngc lineup' will probably consist of Bellin ger and Fltzmaurlce at forwards. Chamberlain center, and Bord man and Lowe at the guard po sitions. Medford wlU start off with their regular lineup of Hayes and Rosa at forwards, Rlggs at center and Fawcett and Watson at guards. This will be a tuneup game for the bitter week-end series with Klamath Falls Pelicans, who have also fallen twice be fore the Tornado, In a pair of southern Oregon conference clashes on the Medford high maple boards. Ashland travels to Grants Pass tonight for a southern Ore gon conference tilt and the Cavemen return the visit when they go to Ashland Friday night. Past Area Grants Pass, Feb. 8 Objec tion to house bill No. 269, In troduced In the legislature by Rep. W. ,W. Balderree of Grants Pass, to prevent fishing with hook and line from a boat or any floating device In the section of the river between Innes riffle, about two miles this side of Gallco, to Bailey creek, six or seven miles further down the rlveri was voiced today by local fishing enthusiasts who pointed out that the bill would deprive residents along that stretch of the river of the privilege of fish ing from an anchored boat or a salmon board. It was said the bill, as drawn, preventing fishing from a float ing device or boat between July 1 and the end of the fishing sea son, would favor a group of visiting fishermen who come in for about 30 days for shore fish ing along that stretch of river. . Hearing on the bill is sched uled for Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Salem.
