HO Society and Qubs Burns-Krug Rites Take Place Here Thursday Morning Sacred Heart Catholic church of Medford was the scene Thurs day of the wedding of Miss Betty Jo Burns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Burns of Ashland, to .Sgt. Bernard J. Krug, son of Mrs. Mary Kiug ot Keaaing, 'Calif. The nuptial mass was read at 10 o'clock in the morning by the Rev. Thomas Hamilton. . Preceding the ceremony Miss Sue Parkinson of Ashland sang "Ave Maria" and during the ser vice sang "Panis Angelicus". Mrs. A. O. Bauman was at the organ for the wedding marches. Lighted tapers and baskets of pastel colored chrysanthemums formed a setting for the wedding party. Miss Burns' wedding gown was of white satin and lace de signed princess style with full length train. Her fingertip length veil fell from a wreath of white rosebuds and she carried a colo nial bouquet of white rosebuds and pink carnations. Her attend ant, Miss Veda Williams oi Asn land, was gowned In dusty pink i ' net worn with a cap of net and : flowers. She also carried a cola ! nlal bouquet of narcissi and pink i carnations. , ' The bride's niece, little Gloria Burns, five-year-old daughter of " Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burns of 5 Ashland, was flower girl. Four Servicemen Honored Guests i A number ot informal social - affairs have been given In the past two weeks for four Medford , .; servicemen home on leave from the navy. Honored were Chester Blcks, Robert Young, Arthur Johnson and Dale Vincent. Young Ricks, S 1c, has left for San Pedro for reassignment after visiting his parents, Mr. nd Mrs. W. C. Ricks. He recent ly returned to this country after 14 months In Australia. Mr. Young, RDM Sc, Is in Medford to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs Lester Young, after 18 months overseas duty and reports next to San Diego for reassignment. Returning after 18 months overseas, Arthur Johnson, CM 3c, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe N. Johnson and will report soon to Treasure Is land for reassignment. Dale Vincent, also home from duty In the South Pacific, Is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess G. Burdett, 327 West Eighth street, announce the engagement of their daugh ter. Elizabeth, to Robert D. Wal ker, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Walker, 213 north Ivy street. No date has been set for the wedding. Miss Burdett Is a graduate of the Rogue River high school and with' her parents came to Med ford to live about two years ago For some time past she has been on the staff of the post surgeon at Camp White. Mr. Walker, a graduate of Medford high school, has been In the navy three years, part of the time on overseas duty, and la currently stationed at the marine barracks In Klamath Falls. He Is a pharmacist's mate first class. Miss Dorothy Lee Becomes Bride Of Coast Guardsman From San Francisco comes the news of the marriage of Miss Dorothy Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royal Lee, former ly of Medford, to Ensign Walter Myron Chase, Jr., U. S. coast guard. The wedding took place on January 18 at sunset in St Peter's Episcopal church in San Francisco. ' The bride wore floor length gown of white moire taffeta with a short lace bolero and white flower head dress with a small veil, She carried satin covered prayer book decorated with a white orchid, ribbons and bouvardla. Mrs. A. C. Allen, II, of Table Rock, was her matron of honor. She wore a flowered jersey gown with white head dress of natural flowers and a corsage of white camellias. Ensign James C. Bote- ler of Burbank, Calif., was best man. After the ceremony, dinner was served In a small dining room of the Palace hotel for the wedding party and a few close friends. Ensign and Mrs. Chase will return to San Diego where both are stationed at the coast guard air station. Mrs. Chase, a Spar, is a grad uate ot Medford high school and attended Southern Oregon Col lege of Education for two years. Ensign Chase is a pilot. His home is in Needham, Mass. He attend ed Northwestern University In Boston, Mass., until enlisting In the coast guard in 1941, Sojourners' Club Plans Celebration -For Anniversary Medford Snlnnrror,' i,,K mill celebrate the fifth anniversary oi lis organization at the annual birthday party next Thursday. Mrs. William Millar Takes Florida Residence Mrs. William Miller and son Larry, have taken up residence in Lake Worth, Fla., in ordei to be near Mrs. Miller's hus band. Major Miller, now sta tioned at Boca Raton army ait field in Florida. For some time past Mrs. Miller and Larry had made their home here with Mrs. Miller's parents, Mr. and Mrs Bert B. Lt, Squires is stationed at a Seattle naval base. OPEN EVENINGS Sgt. Fitzgerald And Florida Girl Wed In Virginia News of the wedding of T. Sat. Herbert R. Fitzgerald has been received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Fitzgerald of Same Valley. The sergeant's bride is the former Louise Davis of Tallahassee, Fla., and the wedding took place January zi in the Baptist church of Wil liamsburg, Va. Both the bride and groom are now on -duty at Langley .Field, Va. Mrs. Fitzgerald la secretary to the officer in charge of train ing and operations at the field and Sgt. Fitzgerald is serving as an aerial engineer at the field. The groom, a graduate of the Sams Valley high school with the class of 1931, received his training at Hamilton Field and served 32 months at various air bases in the Aleutian islands. Before his transfer to Langley Field, Sgt. Fitzgerald was sta tioned at Dale-Mabry Field in Florida. Ashland Resident Weds Serviceman Will Reside Here ASHLAND Miss Martha M. Cody, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Cody of Ashland, and Pvt. Robert L. Olsson of Ames Iowa, were married here January 31, the service being read at the Little Chapel of the Methodist church by the Rev. George W Eruce. The bride s wedding costume was a soldier-blue suit - worn with black accessories and a car- sage of gardenias. Attendants were Mr., and Mrs. Howard T. Funk, brother-in-law and sister of the bride. A reception followed at the home of the bride, 1105 Oak street. Pvt. and Mrs. Olsson will live in Medford, the groom being stationd at Camp White. Red Cross Work Planned By Debs Plans for carrying on Junior Red Cross work Were made at the meeting of Delta Debs held at the home of Miss Janet Hors ley on Palm street last Wednes day evening. Games were also played during the evening. Miss Norma Steams was co-hostess for the evening. Next meeting of the Debs will be with Miss Ann Conroy. Raa Family Members Are Visitors at Home Mr. and Mis. Robert Rae of 819 Bennett avenue have had all the members of their family at home this past week. Lt Gene Rae arrived Satur day frpm Mission, Tex., where he Is awaiting assignment since receiving his wings and com mission as a fighter pilot, and will leave tomorrow. Mrs. C. G. Casperson arrived from Sallna, Kan., and will spend an. indefi nite time here with her parents while her husband is overseas on detached service from Smoky Hills army air base at Salina. f '-as- - - UP SPECIAL LIGHT x Pleasing Concert Presented In City By Mario Berini (By Mrs. E. E. Gore) Mario Berini, young American tenor fresh from a recent con cert tour in .Mexico and South America, was the artist chosen to present the second concert of the 1945 series of the Jackson County Civic Music association Thursday night at the high school auditorium. - Berini pleased his audience with his colorful and beautiful singing. His manner is warm and compelling and he at once estab lishes a sympathetic relationship with his audience. Perhaps this receptive and non-critical feeling between artist and listeners is more easily established by vocal artists than others because many people enjoy excellent singing oi art songs, such as those making up Mr. Berinl's program, more than any other type of art. "Where'ere You Walk", Handel, and the aria "La Fleur que tu m'avals Jetee" from "Carmen' were especially liked, but there were no dull numbers and the Schubert group as well as the modern nationalistic selections were equally enjoyed. The expert and accomplished accompanist was Carl Fuerstner who so ably accompanied Sidor Beiarsky, basso cantante, who opened the concert series last season.
