TWO MEDFORD TRIBUNE W(dntdir Jen. SI. 184S TORNADOES SNOW UNDER CAVEMEN FOR 40-18 Medford Speed Stops Grants Pass Coldf in Contest for Infantile Paralysis Fund. A' smooth-working Medford High School basketball (quad ran over Grants Pass last night 40 to 18 in the Medford gym, taking the lead In the first few minutes of piny and Increasing it throughout the game. Fifty per cent of the net pro ceeds of the game will go to the polio fund. . The Black Tornadoes broke through the Grants Pass zone defense almost at will, breaking fast from under their own bas ket and working the ball into hooting position time and again before the Cavemen could get their defense functioning. Medford's man-for-man de fense gave Grants Pass consider able trouble and as the game moved into the last half forced the Cavemen to resort to more and more long shots. Rlebel Sparks Cav.ra.n Rlebei, Grants Pass guard, would have given the Tornadoes trouble had he been able to shake loose his man on offensive play. The rangy Caveman show ed dead-eye tendencies when giv en a clear shot, sinking all of his three free throws for the evening and the one open shot he was able to get from scrimmage. Teamwork play of Medford was outstanding as time and gain members of the Tornadoe quad passed up a legitimate op portunity to shoot to flip the ball to a teammate In a little bet ter position to score. Grants Pass substituted free ly, right from the start, but was unable to find a combination that could click against the speedy Tornadoes. The game was re markably clean, most of the few fouls committed being offenses of accident rather than Intent. Tornadaos Rampant Through the first quarter, the Tornadoes ran their opponents dliiy, running up a score of 9 to t for the first period. They towed down somewhat during the second quarter, racking up only six points, while the Cave men had their best Inning, tally ing seven, leaving the count IS to 0 tor Medford at the half.
