LOCAL and Meeting Postponed The reg ular meeting 4 the Intermediate Teachera' Council of Jackson county has been postponed until Saturday, Jan. 27. The group will meet in the county court house auditorium at 10:30 a. m. Cane Announced A benefit dance, sponsored by Boy Scout troop 2, will be given Friday evening of this week at the Lin coln school gymnasium. Dancing will begin at 8 p. m. Old-time and "Juke box" music will be furnished. Is Paratrooper Pvt. Wlllard M. Walch of Brownsboro has graduated from the army para chute school at Ft. Benning, Ga., and has won the right to wear the "wings and boots" of the paratroops, according to a news release from the school. To Roteburg Opening The grand opening of the new Star theater in Hoseburg tonight will be attended by Mr. and Mrs. Eino Hemmlla, Mr. and Mrs. Orln A. Schenck, Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Leverette, Mrs. George A. Hunt and her son, John Hunt. . Valley Unit To Meet Evans Valley Extension unit will meet at the home o'f Frances Talbot January 18. It will be a project meeting on "Buffet Meals." All women of the valley are invited to attend and it is stated that those attending need not bring food for luncheon, since the pro ject leaders will furnish it. - Juveniles To Meet Degree of Honor Juvenile club will meet Saturday at 11 a. m. at the Lin coln school. Mrs. Ida M. Wilson, director, urges all members to be present since there will be installation of officers. Guests are welcome. Additional infor mation on the meeting may be had by calling Mrs. Wilson, 4644. " - la Butt Falls Mrs. Gertrude Hoefs of Butte Falls is being visited by her son, Robert F. Hoefs, a torpedoman 2c on a navy PT boat. Hoefs arrived home Friday and has 30 days leave before reporting for new assignment at the navy PT base in Rhode Island. He was over seas 18 months, and wears two gold stars. Before going into the navy in October, 1942, Hoefs at tended the Southern Oregon College of Education at Ashland for two years. Car Found A stolen Ford car registered to Issac M. Wayne, route 2. Grants Pass, was found abandoned near 217 Apple street Tuesday morning, police said to day. The automobile was re ported stolen from Grants Pass before mid-night Sunday, sus pects were not known, police stated. " Daughter Born Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bostwick of Murphy, Ore., are the parents of a daugh ter born Jan. 15 at the Ashland hospital. The child has been named Layle Lee-Ann. The Bost wicks have two sons. Mrs. Bost wick's mother, Mrs. Florence Rush, is here from Portland to be with her daughter and family. Mrs. Rush formerly resided In Medford. Returnt To Duty V. A. Roys ton, painter 3c, navy, who was called home from duty at the naval air station, Hawaii in No vember due to his late wife's illness, left Medford Tuesday night to report at Camp Parks, Cal., for further duty. For sev eral weeks he was at the home of his mother, Mrs. A. L. Ford, 440 South Riverside.. Royston entered the service in August, 1943. Accident Cars driven by Mrs. J. R. Woodford, 526 South Holly street and Mrs. L. D. Hull of Central Point were Involved In a traffic accident shortly after noon Tuesday. A report filed by botn operators said they backed out of driveways on opposite sides of South Holly about 350 feet south of 12th Street at the same time, causing an estimated $10 damage to the Woodford car's fender. Mrs. Host! Leaves Mrs. Jo Rostel left this morning for Ox nard, Cal., where she will make her home in the future. Her mother, Mrs. Josephine Murray, and her sister, Mrs. Lucile Finch, already reside in the California town. Mrs. Rostel has been on the staff of Mann's Department store for many years and has many friends in the city. - - Stolen Report was made to local police authorities Tuesday of theft of goods from the Mo doc Orchard company, 511 South Fir street, some time Monday night after the establishment closed. Items listed as stolen were three dozen pairs of rub ber gloves, three dozen pairs knit packers gloves and 12 pairs oi sorters canvas gloves, accord ing to the police report. Guilty parties had not yet been found today. Back To Duty Roy F. Cher ry, sic, returned to San Fran cisco Sunday after a 15 day fur lough here at the home of his wife and children who live at 412 Benson street. He is the son of Mrs. A. Cherry, 312 South Ivy street, and returned from six months convoy duty with naval forces in the south Pacific and invasion operations on Leyte Is land, P. I. Cherry wears four stars for four major naval bat tles his mother said. He joined the navy about 15 months ago and was last home in July. Cherry was accompanied by his wife to San Francisco. Mrs. Her ald A. Felt and her sons, Don and Herald, Jr., were also re cent visitors from Eugene at the home of her mother, Mrs. A.
