LOCAL and Vail to Meat Jackson county chapter No. 8, Disabled Ameri can Veterans, will meet tonight at the armory at 8 o'clock. Meeting Postponed The meeting of the Friday luncheon club has been postponed from this week until January 19, It was announced today. Club to Meet Delta Debs will meet this evening at 7:30 o'elock at the home of Margaret Dry dale, 1123 West Main street. Betty Medley will be co-hostess. Medford Wae Hera Sgt. Shir ley J. Roseberry is visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. R.. R. Jones at 208 Hamilton street, and with other members of her immediate family in Medford un til January 17. She is assigned to a tank destroyers unit at North Camp Hood, Texas, where she will return to duty on conclusion of her furlough. Sgt Roseberry joined the WAC two years ago this month. In Denver Hospital Lt. Fred Traylor returned to New York city several days ago from serv ice in an army paratroop unit In Holland and reported to an army hospital in Denver where he is being treated for an ill ness. His wife, the former Rae LeFevre, who has made her home with her family at 104 Florence street, Joined her hus band a few days ago in Denver. She was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Dorothy LeFevre, who returned to Medford yes terday. Lt. Traylor, formerly stationed at Camp White, was overseas approximately six months. Mrs. C, L. Goff, 410 Beatty, for a few weeks. With her are her two young sons, Richard and Robert. The family came to Medford December 28 from Seattle where they make their home, and where Lt Com. Goff arrived month ago after eight months' service In the Aleutian islands. He left Medford December 29 for his new station at 12th Naval District, headquarters, San Fran cisco. Vz off Sentence For Begging A lo cal court gave Oscar Hunnins the choice yesterday between 10 days in jail or a promise to leave town on a charge of beg ging on the streets, according to a police report. Hunnins agreed to leave town according to authorities. Building Permita The city superintendent issued permits yesterday to A. C. Ladd, 702 Pennsylvania street, and P. M. Kershaw, 307 S. Holly to re model their residences. Repairs and alterations to the Ladd home are estimated at $300 and ad ditions to the Kershaw property are fixed at approximately $195. Receives Rating Robert C. Crowl, son of , Mr. and Mrs. George A. Clark, Spring street, has received the rating of sea man second class and is now attending flremans' school at the San Diego naval training station, according to informa tion received by his parents. Crowl went into the navy in November. Stamp Change Dealers handling sugar stamps through ration banking accounts were ad vised . today by G. M. Hafen brack, OPA ration banking of ficer, that effective at once sugar stamps must be attacked to gummed sheets instead pt being inserted in envelopes, regardless of the number on hand to be de posited. The gummed sheets are available at the banks, he said. . . t Accident In Fog Heavy fogs Sunday night were blamed for a minor traffic accident on Jack sonville highway about 50 feet west of Perrydale avenue ac cording to an accident report on file today. Cars driven by Lewis Applebaker, of Jacksonville, and Harry L. Mills, 334 Apple street, sideswiped about 11 p. m. the report stated but caused 'very little damage. No other accidents were reported to police during the extreme fogs Sunday night, e e .. Traffic Accident Automobiles driven by A. W. Klatt, 22 South Grape street, and G. H. Johnson, 819 South Central avenue, were involved in a traffic accident Monday afternoon, causing $200 damage to Klatt's car and $50 to Johnson's vehicle, according to estimates given on a traffic re port. The accident occurred when Klatt's car going east on Main near the intersection with Front street struck the other ve hicle, the report stated.-Neither party was reported injured Hera on Leave E n s i g n and Mrs. Herbert E. Harper arrived in raeciiora several days ago from Cambridge. Mass., for a 14 day leave at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Hamer. 225 Cottage street. Ho is in the communications branch of the navy and has been studying at Harvard university since last June when he was commissioned at Tucson, Ariz., upon entering duty. Harper and his wife will leave Friday for Seattle where he will report for further assign ment. Inducted Information was re ceived today that Harry E. Haer- tie and Roy E Hoover, Jr., both registrants of local draft board number 1, Medford, were Induct ed into the army on December 29 at Fort Lewis, Wash., Carroll E. Gritsch has been approved for general service, hiving passed a Dreinduction physical examina tion at San Francisco on January 3rd, according to Selective Ser vice officials. Donald J. Shaw, who volunteered for Immediate induction from Marshfleld was accepted for service In the army December 22. Medford GI Enjoy Copies Of Tribune Received in France Saving how much he enjoyed reading the Mail-Tribune, Sgt. W. E. Keene of Medford, now serving with the 7th army in France, recently wrote to the Tribune saying that he had ior rowed a few copies. Since I have been in France I have had the fortune of get ting to read the Tribune sev eral times, which I received from some of my friends, and I want to tell you how much I enjoy it. It does me good to read our Yanks in the service. I am going to ask my fqlks to send it to me regularly. Say 'hello' to all the swell people in Med ford." Records at the draft board show that W. T. Ramos of 818 West Second street is listed as next-of-kin for Sgt. Keene. Robert Dallaire la Home Visitor From Fifth Army Pfc. Robert Dallaire who was twice wounded during a year's service with the 5th army in the Italian campaign, is visiting at the home of his mother, Mrs, Charles B. Rose on route 2. He has been a patient at McCaw general hospital in Walla Walla where he will report again on February 1 for further hospi talization. Dallaire's brother, Cpl. Joe A. Dallaire, returned a few days ago to Fort Lewis, Wash., after visiting his family here. He re turned to the west coast in Oc tober after 32 months of duty with the 41st division in Austra lia and saw service in the New Guinea campaigns. He has been In the army since September, 1940, when, as a member of the national guard, he was called to active .duty. C. 39 Yakima 47 SYRETTES USED TO AID E To Impress residents of this area with the necessity of sav ing tin cans for salvage, mem bers of the county salvage com mittee call attention to one lit tle-known war-time use of tin, the making of "syrettes." Known to the army and navy as "angels of mercy," the syret tes are individual hypodermic syringes which are standard equipment In every first aid kit on the field of battle and are used to combat the excruciating pain and shock which follows a severe wound. It is said that since the effect of shock Itself may e fatal, use of the syrette often means the difference be tween life and death. The syrette is about the di ameter of a lead pencil and re sembles a small toothpaste tube with a needle at the head en closed in a transparent plastic covering. Its pouch must be made of tin 100 per cent tin. If a soldier lies wounded and alone he opens his first-aid kit, takes out the syrette, pinches off the plastic covering, inserts the needle point under his skin and squeezes the little tin pounch. Alter a few minutes the mor phine takes effect, his agony sub sides and he is able to rest until the medical corps arrives. salvage experts say that it takes only two ordinary tin cans to produce tin for one syrette and everyone is asked to re member this and to save every possible can for the approaching drive, scheduled for early in March. His wife and two children reside in Seattle. EUGENE WAC IS SHOT . TO DEATH IN KANSAS Wlnfleld, Kan., Jan. 9. (U.R) S'Sgt. Phyllis E. Ormlston, 22, WAC, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ormlston, Eugene, Ore., was shot and killed Monday night, Colonel Donald E. Meads, commanding officer at Strother field announced today.
