n Your Health anid Its Care BY D& WILLIAM BRADY. M. D. Raider should addrra Inqulilee toi Of. WlllKm Brady 26ft El Camino. Bawarly HUU. Calll. . AFTER ALL, EVERYBO Patient 83 year eld. First doctor who examined her told her that her entire breast was cystic but tnat this was not uncommon. He advised her, however, to have the lump she complain ed about re moved and let it go at that. She might have further trouble after tha lumD was Dr. Brady removed, be cause of the cystic condition (cyst means bag or sac) and hence she must watch it care fully. Then he advised her to consult a surgeon immediately. ... ; (Mrs. M. M.) ' -'Now, wait, Ma'am, I'm get ting confused. Let's make fresh startsay tha patient con sulted a physician who found the breast had not . only, the lump the patient had discovered but several little cysts or sac like lumps, and he persuaded the patient to have the advice ' of another physician who does surgery. Now take a full breath and go on from there. .. . . . . the surgeon recommend ed that the lump be removed at once. She accordingly . submit ted to the operation. At the operation the doctor found that the lump was not malignant, but there were so many cysts thru out the breast that they decided it was necessary to amputate the entire breast. Otherwise, they feared, the patient would have to have another operation before long, and would probably have to submit to amputation eventually. The report of the pathologist who examined the tissue specimen removed at the "'beginning of the operation was "Chronis cystic matltis". (That means chronic inflammation of the gland tissue in the breast or the portions which were cystic.) Now the patient is mooning and complaining that she 'had expected to have only the lump removed the lump she herself had discovered, and she has be come morbid about it and keeps BUSINESS DIRECTORY Transfer CltV' TflAHSrgfi & SToRAOI CO . Well, that's my opinion. Ma'am. Every mother's son of us is a bit daft in one way or a few others, and some daugh ters, too. It probably will not have any effect on the young woman's obsession what I may think or say about it, but you ask .for my opinion and this Is it. I think the young woman was fortunate in her choice of physicians. I believe both- the first physician, who urged her to obtain the ad vice of tha surgeon, and the sur geon who operated on her, gave her the-best of treatment. ' Not that radical surgery . is advisable in every tease of a lump in the breast. But in the case of this .young woman it was surely wise. That's my opin ion. No physician or surgeon could have done better. QUESTIONS ANSWERS Cruelty to Children . My slater Insists on uking her tlx monthe old baby to the movie once or twice week. It this harmful? (8. C.) Answer It la cruel. In my opinion. It subjects the baby to the unjustifi able risk -of contracting aome com municable disease such aa Infantile paralyals, flu, diphtheria. Whooping cough. Dampnesl ' Her la question that cornea up freqi tly and we would appreciate your (...vice. Do you consider. to be very damp and not a healthy place to live? (S. E.) Answer No sale. On tha other hand, In my opinion dampness has nothing to do with the healthiness of the place. Any region or - place or building - that la reasonably com fortable may be Ideal so far as any one's notion of "dampness" is concern ed. Nowhere in North America is the atmosphere too "damp" for healthy living. In my opinion. If In the back of your mind there are depressing no Uona about "rheumatism" and "taking cold" it might possibly cheer you up a bit to atudy "'call If Crl" and "The Ilia Called Rheumatism" for the for mer booklet Inclose twenty-five cents, for the latter ten cents, and stamped envelope bearing your address. The new regulations, cover ing men in the 18-through-37 age group, are effective immediate ly. They are designed to imple ment War Mobilization Director James F.
