In Hospital Pfe. Alfred J. Hardy is being temporarily treated at Stark General hos pital, Charleston, S. C, before being transferred to another army hospital according to a news release from the hospital. Pfc. Hardy completed 10 months of duty In Italy with an infan try unit before returning to this country. In Rome Cpl. William M. Strode has written to relatives here that he enjoyed a special holiday treat by spending Christmas week In the city of Rome. , Cpl. Strode has been sta tioned with the army in Italy, having been with a replacement company for the past six months. His wife, Mrs. Bertha Strode, resides at 324 Haven street. Burdell Leaves Jack Bur dell, radarman third class, left last night for San Pedro, Calif., after spending a leave in Med- ford with his father, J. R. Bur dell, Route 4, Box 311, and his mother, Mrs. Grace Curry, Getchell apartments. Burdell has been In the navy 19 months and his ship, a heavy cruiser, has been under fire several times. Black, first sergeant in the field artillery, has been hon orably discharged at Fort Lewis, Wash., according to word re ceived here today. Black s local address is 412 North Ivy, where he visited recently with his par ents while on furlough previous to discharge. Return Mrs. Bill Hulen and daughter, Joan, returned to Medford early this week from Portland where they spent the holidays with Mr. Hulen. Hulen, who left the staff of the Med ford Mail Tribune last fall to work for the Associated Press in Portland, recently resigned his A. P. duties to take employ ment as a sports writer on the Portland Oregonian. Mrs. Hulen, teacher on the staff of the Roosevelt school, will re sign with the end of the current semester In order that she and her daughter may loin Mr. Hulen in Portland. OLD WEST RETURNS Topeka, Kan. U.R) Cattle dustlin' days have returned- to the plains of Kansas, R. E. Adams of Maplehill, Kan., has offered a $2,500 reward for in formation leading to conviction of rustlers who herded 81 head of cattle from his Meady county ranch recently. Of the cattle, 40 cows have been recovered from a canyon where they were hidden. The 41 missing head are calves weighing about 478 pounds each. TAKEN BY DEATH Andrew Flyen Anderson, a resident of Jackson county for 17 years .passed away at a local hospital early Friday. . Mr. Anderson was born In Norway, February 14, 1865, and came to this country about 60 years ago. In 1891 he was married to Miss Agnes Olson at EauClaire, Wis. Mr. Anderson leaves his sons, O. M. Anderson ' of Medford; Arthur B. Anderson, Los Ange les, Calif., and Harold V. Ander son In armed service. He is also survived by a brother, Martin Anderson of Tarkeo, Mont., and one sister, 'Mary Anderson of Spokane, Wash. He also leaves many friends throughout the county, especially in the Union Creek district, where he lived for many years. Funeral services will be con ducted from Perl Funeral Home Saturday at 2 p. m., the Rev. Harry Hansen, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Concluding services will be pri vate.
