Medfordltes had less than usual need for raincoats and um brellas during December, ' ac cording to Meteorologist R. D. Church of the local weather bu reau whose monthly report shows only .74 of an inch pre cipitation compared with the normal of 2.88. Havy fogs persisted for 14 days, however, breaking 16 year record of 12 foggy days for December. Temperatures, on the other hand, were comparatively high. The warmest day was December 12 when the thermometer hit 62 degrees, the report shows. Low est low was reached December 15 with 23 degrees. Average daily maximum was 47.2, almost 2 degrees above the normal maximum of 45.8 degrees. Mercury readings showed an average daily minimum of 32.4 degrees for December against an average normally of 31.1. Month ly mean was 39.8 compared with normal of SS.l, the report re vealed, making. December not only abnormally dry, but warm er than usual. Since 1911, the coldest Decem ber day was in 1919 when 10 de grees below zero was recorded at the bureau. The hottest De cember day on record was in 1929 when the barometer reg istered 71 degrees. Tokyo Combats U. S. Broadcasts Beamed To Japanese Listeners By United Press Japan's propaganda strate gists are combatting new American transmitter on Saipan by urging Japanese listeners to go to bed before it starts beam ing programs to Japan, it was indicated today. The American station, which began operations last week with messages to the Japanese people from Undersecretary of State Joseph C. Grew and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, takes over Japan's medium air waves as soon as the Japanese network goes oft the air. Last night a Tokyo home broadcast, reported by the FCC, gave its listeners this instruc tion to "follow continuously without fail:" "Let's turn off the radio as soon as this broadcast Is over." rrldar. Y., today Introduced a bill to give the office of price admlnlstra tion "the unconditional right" to establish ceilings on live cattle prices. Celler said It Is "like putting money into an open sack" to pay subsidies to meat packers, when cattle owners and cattle grazers have the right of uncontrolled competition. He told the house that many butcher shops in cities have been forced to sell meat at a loss under the present system, "The time has come for a showdown," he said.
