As the daily requirement of cal

it becomes more apparent that
"a quart of milk a day for every
growing child" la not merely
a theoretical concept. After full
growth and development has
been attained (from the age of
18 to 25 years) the dally calcium
requirement is not so great and
perhaps a pint of milk a day is
sufficient for an adult.
Skim milk (milk from which
the cream has been removed
whether by skimming or by the
separator) and real buttermilk
(the liquid left in churn after
churning butter) are practically
as good as whole fresh milk as a
source of calcium. Cottage or
Dutch cheese and indeed every
variety of cheese Is an excellent
source of calcium especially
when the diet does not Include

Second to milk and milk prod

source of calcium in the diet.
Next to milk, cheese and egg
yolk, comes the green leaves

Black Market For
Illegitimate Babes
Flourishes in U. S.
Washington, Jan. 3 (U.R)
Maud Morlock, consultant on so
cial services to the children's
bureau1 of the labor department,
said today that one out of every
12 babies born in the U. S. is
illegitimate and that more than
half the illegitimate babies are
being "sold" for huge profits by
unscrupulous "baby brokers."
Miss Morlock said the baby
brokers, operate as commer
cial adoption agencies, approach
ed unwed girls expecting babies
and offered to pay all their ex
penses on condition that the
mother-to-be would sign away
all rights to the child.
The brokers then "sell" the
babies for as much as $2,000
apiece to couples anxious to
adopt them, and mothers who
want fo get their babies back
have no legal 'way to do so, she
said.
