i PUYALLUP, WHITE RIVER PLAN BAN ON JAP'S RETURN Sumner, Wash., Dee. 80 (U.B Member! of the anti-Nisei "Remember Pearl Harbor" league today were on record as determined to boycott all Jap anese returned to the Puyallup and White River valleys and anyone catering to them. Nearly 300 members, some of them non-members, attended a meeting slanted at recruiting supporters, particularly . from the ranks of servicemen. "We are fighting an enemy not a race," President Benjamin T. Smith, Kent, Wash., said. Smith said requests for new units have come from Seattle, Tacoma and other western Washington cities. He said, however, that the press of busi ness brought on by the impend ing return of Japanese citizens to the valleys probably will pro hlbit the formation of new chap ters immediately. President Harold Foster of the Sumner school board sup ported the right of returning Japanese-Americans to miblic education, "because the law concerning admission to schools coven Japanese as well as American students." Eagle Point Eagle Point, Dee. 28 Mr. ana Mrs. fTea Wewland were happily surprised Tuesday eve ning when Mr. and Mrs. Wm. De Priest and Mr. and Mrs. James Razor of Inglewood, Cal., om lime friends, arrived unex- pectedly, to spend the holiday season with them. Mrs. Otho D. Goanell of Lake view, Ore., who was houseguest of Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Hender son the week preceding Christ mas, left Tuesday for Roseburg to remain until her husband Cpl. Gosnell, who is the the 881st Bomb Squadron on Salpan returns. The Extension Unit Christ mas party which was held at the home of Mrs. Fred New- land December 14, was a most pleasant affair with 38 members present. Subject of the business meeting was "Buffet Lunch eons" and was very ably dem onstrated by Mrs. Clarence and Mrs. Wilfred Davies. The de licious chicken loaf and gelatine dessert was served for the noon buffet luncheon. Mrs. Newland bad the rooms nicely decorated. with fir boughs and cunning lit tle favors, also a beautiful Christmas tree under which the gifts were placed. At the close Christmas carols were sung, and each one was asked to tell their most thrilling or exciting Christ mas experience as the gifts were given out Next -meeting will be at the home of Mrs. J. Rob inson Thursday, Jan. 11, and the subject will be "Color in the Home." County Agent Miss Marian Farrell will be leader. SSgt. Earl Harnish, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harnish of Eagle Point, arrived in San Francisco December 20 from 2VS years service with the 41st Division 188 Infantry in Aus tralia. He was wounded in July and has been In a hospital since. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He is in Barnes General hospital in Vancouver, Wn, at present for further medical care, but wrote that ha may be home for New Year. Mr. and . Mrs. Frank Gibson Of Gasquet Camp, Calif., who spent Christmas here with Mrs, Gibson's mother, Mrs. Gustle Seefleld, left Tuesday for home, Leila May Tlbbetts, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lind say Tlbbetts of this place, was returned to her home Christmas evening, and recuperating nice ly from an appendectomy. Sat. George Peachy arrived here last week from New York on arrival from France to spend Christmas with his grandmoth er, Mrs. Alice Daley before go ing on to a Spokane, Wash., hos pital for further medical care for wounds received while in action last August 8. Gosnell, also Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ferren of Ashland and Mrs. Lillie Gil bert of Jacksonville were din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Norris of Jacksonville Christ mas Day. Teron Taylor of Sacramento, Calif., but formerly of this place arrived here December 12 for a few days' visit with rela tives before going on to Port land hospital to receive modi can care. He has not been well for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Walter ' Sim mons entertained four WACs from Camp White at dinner on Christmas Day. Miss Dorothy Young Is (pend ing the holidays with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Young and her brother, Billy. She will return Tuesday to Portland where she is an army cadet nurse training at the Good Samaritan hospital. NAVYlfYEAR'S FORMER CAMP WHITE MAJOR IS PROMOTED Promotion of Major Clarence M. Jones, formerly stationed at Camp White, to lieutenant-colonel has been announced by the army, the news being received at Camp White this week. Col. Jones, formerly commanding officer of the First DEML and inspector general at Camp White, Is now inspector general for the Alaskan Defense com mand, with headquarters at Whitehorse, Yukon territory. Col. Jones was stationed at Camp White from the time the camp was first established until last May. His marriage to Mrs. Florence Thomas of this city took place last summer and it is understood that his wife is with him in Alaska. At the local war price and ration board It was stated that laundries and dry cleaning establishments in Medford were operating under a price schedule worked out for the entire state through the state association. F IN IN SERVICE A full program of New Year celebrations for service men and women in Medford have been planned by the TJSO, Mar Kade and clubs at Camp White. At the VSO the calendar is crowded with parties and en tertainment beginning Sunday morning with the popular Java session at 9:30 and climaxed with a formal dance New Year's night with Barnle Beaton's or chestra. The regular Sunday supper at S" o'clock will be served by the Lady Lions. A Watch party will be in full swing later, fol lowed by an oyster supper at Midnight. - At the MarKake New Year festivities began last night with a formal dance and intermis sion supper served at 9:30. At Camp White the hub of ac tivities is the Officers Club where a dinner dance for mem bers and their guests will take place tonight. Other parties are planned at Service Clubs at the camp, including a supper and movie to be shown at Service Club No. 2.
