Downed Airmen to
Distill Water by
New 'Solar Still
Los Angeles, Dec. 29 U.B
Airmen downed at sea will turn
sea water Into drinking water
with their own "solar still" soon
to be put into mass production,
the air force technical service
command reported today.
The still is a flat, 30-inch en
velope packed into life rafts, six
stills to every plane borne
emergency raft.
Inside the envelope is a plastic
screen, covered by black cel
lulose sponge.
The downed airman Inflates
the envelope until it forms
tube 12 inches in diameter, puts
two quarts of seawater In it and
ties it to the side of the raft.
Sun rays evaporate the sea wat
er the- salt remains on the
sponge and the vapor then con
denses as drinking water in a
small reservoir.

possibility that Mrs. Kathleen

abandoned car was found near
Drain, Ore. .
Paul Tomlin, the woman s
husband, arrived in Roseburg
and conferred with State Police
Sgt. Paul Morgan. Tomlin said
his wife operated a travel serv
ice and had driven five air
cadets from Texas to their homes

ed home from Portland and
wired her mother from Wald
port on November 22.
Morgan said it is feared she

On January 17th, we'll have a real
treat for you . . . "My Pal, Wolf".
It's not a BIC picture by the usual
Hollywood standard ... no famous
names ... no fancy sets or trick
photography ... it didn't cost a
million.
It's Just the story of a lovable little
7-year-old and a runaway dog . ,
that's all ... a kid and a dog.
It's a story of a youngster with too
busy parents ... a youngster who
pours all her neglected affection
Into the receptive heart of an almost-human
member of the Army's
K-9 Corps-
Doesn't sound BIC, does It? . . . It
isn't, in the usual fashion.
But Bigness can also mean "Big fn
heart . . . Big in humanity . . Big
In simplicity ... Big In entertain
ment." And "My Pal, Wolf" Is BIC that
