Tengwald, member of the state realty board of exam' lners, said today the state su prema court ha unanimously upheld a decision written by Justice Arthur D. Hay that no person can get a commission for selling real property unless he is licensed by the state as a real estate broker. The decision was a reversal of Circuit Judge J. R. Green in an appeal from Deschutes coun ty, Tengwald said. Tengwald cited a case in Deschutes county in which J. N Hunter, acting a agent for the late Mr. Emily F. Gilchrist Wells, claimed $29,062 in com missions for finding a buyer for $990,000 worth of her timber. The lower court granted his commission but the supreme court ruled against him, Teng wald said. NO MAIL GLUT AT LOCAL POSTOFFICE Requests urging public coop eration in mailing Christmas cards and packages .early brought a good response from Medford citizens, according to Postmaster Frank DeSoUza, who stated today that while the load Is naturally heavy, there la no glut in the local mall situation. The outgoing mail peak has been passed and receipts are now lighter than In previous years four days before Christmas. Last Monday was the largest day in the history of the local postoffice, in stamps sold, war bonds purchased, and packages received for mailing, the post master says. De Souza attributed the early mail clearance partly to the fact that many persons sent packages to soldier at a distance, and also many lent gift boxes of fruit, which go by express. E Jackson county courthouse, city hall offices, local banks, postoffice and nearly all retail stores will be closed next Mon day, Christmas Day, it was an nounced today. A survey made by the Chamber of Commerce shows that several stores are re maining open in the evenings the latter part of this week, but no general policy could be agreed upon, due to the shortage of mer chandise in some stores. Many courthouse offices will hold gift exchanges Saturday afternoon, and the county clerk's office has a decorated tree. Jailer Harry Ingling says the 13 prisoners in the county jail will have the usual holiday turkey dinner Christmas Day. The Mail Tribune will not publish on Monday, allowing em ployees to spend the day at home with their families. Livestock South San Francisco. Dsto. 22f TTP) (USDA) Cattle, 75. Steady.
