1 EIGHT MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE Wednwdty, Dec. 20, 1844 Your Health and Its Care BY Da WILLIAM BRADY. M. D. i Reader should address InquiriM toi Dr. William Brady 265 El Camlno. BTrl HUlf. Colli. ONE TOOTH A lady from told me you write interesting health articles for the daily paper there ana espe- clally ahe i mentioned one article In JVrOHl which you S.' 11 told the value of one tooth to a person. I was In an ac c i d e n t that knocked out one of my front teeth. It is now up for - Dr. Brady settlement and I have no idea what would be reasonable compensation for the loss of one tooth . . . (H.M.P.) In the booklet "Save Your Teeth" (for copy send twenty five cents and stamped pre addressed envelope) on p. 10 you will see the author's state ment that every tooth Is worth a thousand dollars. But that is just my estimate. Probably I put a higher value on my own teeth than some doctors or den- . tists would place on any one's teeth. ,1 know I'd have to be desperately in need of the money, more so than ever in my life and I have desperate ly needed money more than once, just enough to pay the rent or buy some groceries or pevent the shutting off of the i gas before I'd give one of my ; teeth for a thousand dollars. From what readers tell me, I ' gather that a lot of people would rather have seveal teeth extract ed than spend a hundred dollars fo some needed dentisty. From the number of people who go partly edentulous for the rest of their short lives, once they have lost a numbe of teeth, I gather that a shamefully large Portion of the population of ankeeland, after all, are either ' too ignorant or too stingy or both to have proper dentistry when they need it. From time to time readers ask Whether they should let the den tist pull the last of their teeth, ound teeth, but teeth the dentist deems of no advantage or even ji -fir '1 i. Whatever value you or I may place upon a tooth, one s own tooth, should apply to a sound functioning tooth. When many teeth have been lost the tunc tional value of the few teeth that remain intact declines to ward zero, for it is obvious that good mastication and good oral digestion and good salivary ai- gestion (which in a normal per son continues for half an hour or more after the food has en tered the stomach) depends on full eaulDment of good teem So, if H.M.P. had all of his or her teeth working efficiently to keep him or her in good health, at the time the accident happened, I should say a mou AanA hprrli would be a mod' erate compensation to ask for each tooth lost. FOR RECLAMATION RECEIVES STUDY Salem. Ore.. Dec. 20. (U.R) Three proposed legislative rec ommendations were under dis cussion by the Oregon reclama tion congress after their first sessions today of the 32nd an nual meeting of the srnnn. It is the first mectnig held since 1941. The legisltaive proposals which were originated by the ODerations section and referred to the legislative committee, in cluded: Provision for the transfer from the bond fund to the opera tions maintenance or eeneral fund of any balance remaining wnen irrigation or drainage dis tricts are free of debt; Permission for Irrltrntlnn tricts to furnish domestic water to users outside the district or to non-assessed users inside the dis trict; . And remedial legislation relnt. lng to payment of dues. Other legislative recommen dations will be made during the sessions here today and tomor row. During the mnrnlnff Nlol Allen, Grants Pass, suggested a change in the constitution of the congress whereby the operations sections would include irrigation and drainage districts. District organizations were urged to submit legislative rec ommendations to the convention in time for them to be acted upon. Now maybe it's because I'm a matron and am happily mar ried (well anyway married: and happily so when there's no car penter work to be done) that a lot of young people, and some not so young, give me their con fidence. I find as many men as women and girls who want, and can't seem to accomplish, what all want if they're normal, and that is to get married. Yet for some reason I can't understand they have been unable to do so. The men say, "I don't meet many girls;, at least not the. kind of girls I'd be willing to marry." The girls tell me the same. Just this very morning a wo man told me she'd give anything to meet and marry a decent man. "How decent?", I asked, having in mind the unreasonable de mands some women make, for getting they themselves may be no bargain. "One who quit carrying a bot tle when he was weaned," was the prompt reply. ' ! Yet less than a week ago a man said to me, "A man has to carry a bottle these days to rate with the women; makes a guy sicki"' So it is my contention that a good move would be to get things organized; separate the sheep from the goats, so to speak. Get the bottle babies to gether and the weaned ones ditto. ' Maybe I'd have the universal trouble if I were husband hunt ing but I doubt it. I'd go at it in a businesslike manner for aft er all, marriage is the most ira portant business ir. the world. The church which I attend is giving; a banquet this week. Members were urged to bring service men. "Remember your own men are somewhere and maybe some one is inviting them to things. You do the same," we were told. "But I don't know any serv ice men," several women wail ed. I didn't either. I hadn't known any Thanksgiving, but I got guests just the same. So I ' MMEDIATE DELIVERY 1 I USES- rf M., : l.o.b.
