Thursday club will meet at the
home of Mrs. Cornelia Barnes,
South Pacific highway, at eight
o'clock the evening of Thursday,
Dec. 14, it was stated today.
Mrs. George Bourne will be co

Extension unit will meet Friday,
Dec. 19, at the home of Mrs.
A. E. Stevens at 10:30 a. m.

"Wartime Buffet Meals and Hos

Miss Gertrude Shoemaker, sis

from Klamath Falls Wednesday
to visit at the Daniels home, and
both guests plan to remain until
Saturday. Miss, Shoemaker is
making a speaking tour while
on leave of absence from mis
sionary , work in the Belgian
Congo.

of "T" gasoline rations that re
newal applications for the next
quarter's gasoline supplies
should be sent in to the local
war price and ration, board at
once. Forms were mailed sev
eral days ago and unless they
are returned in the near future,

son is spending this week in

Flue Fire The ehemlcal
truck was called to the residence
of Mark Jarmln, 23 Corning
Court, last night, to extinguish
a flue fire caused by vines
which had grown into the chim
ney, according to the fire de
partment. No damage was done
the fire department said. '
Win Ribbons Mr. and Mrs,
John Smith of the Jacksonville
highway returned Sunday after
attending the Salem dog show.
Mrs. Smith entered two Pomer
anians, a male and a female, and
both received blue ribbons in the
judging. While at the show Mrs.
Smith purchased a highly-bred
female Pomeranian to add to her
kennel.

Money Stolen BUI Prouty,
operator at the Craterian thea
tre, Central avenue, reported to
city police that $20 in change
and $8.16 from an employee's
billfold was stolen from the
theatre's popcorn stand room
sometime last night. It was be
lieved that someone might have
stayed , in the theatre after clos
ing hours last night, the report
said.

Bray, sound man on a destroyer
escort, and his wife arrived to
day for a visit with Dr. and Mrs.
Jouett P. Bray of Lozier Lane.
Bray was given a sick leave
from Oak Knoll hospital, Oak
land, where he was confined for
two months. Prior to his stay
there he was confined in a hos
pital at Peari Harbor for four
months. He has taken part in
several major engagements in
the Pacific, his last action being
on Saipan,

field crops conference held in
connection with the American
Farm Bureau Federation's 26th
convention.
He pointed out that "in War
time it is difficult to import
enough sugar to fill our needs
and that we can t produce it
in sufficient quantities to re
lieve the situation."

could have caused severe dam
age In an inhabited area was re
corded today by California In
stitute of Technology, 3,200
miles northwest in the western
Aleutian islands.
Dr. Beo Gutenberg, chief seis
mologist here, said the differen
tial was accounted for by the
greater distance from the Aleu
tians to the eastern seaboard. He
discounted an early theory that
the earthquake was centered in
South America.

fairly severe and probably oc
curring In the Aleutians, was re
ported today by Dr. Perry Byer-
ly. University of California
seismologist.
The tremor was recorded at
9:25.09 o'clock last night and
was approximately 2900 miles
