Society and CLUBS Prospect Woman Honored Guest? Club Entertained Prospect Mrs. Raymond Art mire was guest of honor at a shower given at the home of Mrs. Fred Svinth Dee. S. After Mrs. Artmire opened the many gifts games and contests were enjoyed and refreshments were served. Attending were the honored guest, Mrs. Artmire and son, Frank, Mrs. T. J. A. Welch and Mrs. T. L. Goodwin were introduced as new members at the meeting of the Wednesday Study club last week. The meeting was at the Girls' Community club, with Mrs. Mary Jacobs, president, presiding. Members of the social com mittee reported that plans were being made for a Christmas par ty for the next meeting. Mrs. Harold Brown will be chairman. Mrs. A. J. Hanby was reported to be a patient in the hospital, having suffered a broken hip, and it was planned to give her a birthday card shower today. Mrs. Hanby has been a member of the club for many years. Following the business meet ing Mrs. E. Iverson gave a paper on India, describing the country people and their customs. Mrs. C. A. Meeker gave a book re view on "India, Yesterday, To day and Tomorrow" by T. A. Raymond, bringing out the part India is playing in the war, the country's form of . government and the marked improvements in agricultural methods. She fur ther reported on the customs and beliefs of the nation. ' . Christmas Party Given By' Guild Monday Evening -'-. Crater Lake Guild of the Pres byterian church held the annual Christmas party Monday evening at the church. Group singing of Christmas songs was enjoyed, with Miss Georgiana Hussong at the piano, and Mrs. Howard Bush sang, with Miss Naomi Frost accompanying. . 1 Mrs. W. E. Tumy lead the de votionals with "Portrait . of Christ" as the topic, and the program was completed with the showing of colored pictures by Miss Lucille Lenox. .. " Refreshments were served by Mrs. Ernest Rogers, Mrs. Ivah Murray and Miss Lenox.. . Circle To Hold Christmas Party, Fidelity Circle of the First Methodist church will hold - a Christmas party with 'exchange of gifts when the group meets Tuesday at the home of Mrs. A. E. Chew, 1404 West Main street. A potluck luncheon- will be served at one o clock and will be followed by a business ses sion, with election of officers, and the gift exchange. ' Members attending are asked to bring service, bread and but ter and a hot dish or salad. Those wishing transportation are asked to be at the church at 12:30. p.m. Mrs. A. E. Lyman and Mrs. E. G. Roseborough will be assisting hostesses. ; Zonta Officers To Be Hostesses - . Officers of Medford Zonta club will be hostesses for the annual Christmas party this week, with the affair planned for Tuesday evening at the studio of Mrs. Effie Kurtz, 204 N. Ivy St. Serving as hostesses will be Mrs, Irean Grigsby, president of the group, Mrs. Florine Bolton, vice president, Miss Anne Bateman, secretary, and. Mrs. Grace Holmes, treasurer. Those attending are asked to bring an inexpensive toy for the Christmas tree. The party is scheduled for 8 o clock. Auxiliary To Hear Lieut. Ingraham ' Lt. Aida Ingraham, ,WAC re cruiter stationed in Medford, will speak at the meeting of the American Legion auxiliary to be held Wednesday night at the armory at eight o'clock. Mrs. O. L. Overmyer is chairman In charge of the meeting. Following the business meet ing and program refreshments will be served for members of the American Legion and auxil iary. Visiting Friends Her Mrs. Mary B. Griffin Is in Medford to visit relatives and friends, including the J. F. True family at 413 South Central avenue and the C. P. True fam ily on the Jacksonville highway. Mrs. Griffin resides in Sacra mento, Calif. 1 . Degree Of Honor Dinner Is Held; Club Entertained . Recent activities of the De gree of Honor lodge included a dinner for members and guests Nov. 28 and the past president's Christmas party held Tuesday night at the home of Miss Ada bee Seiler, 1132 West Main street. Seventy-five attended the din ner which was followed by a program arranged by past presi dents of the lodge. Woodrow Murphy - presented violin solos, accompanied by Louis Parker and Mrs. Bessie H u b 1 e r pre sented vocal numbers. A play, "Moving Pictures," was pre sented by the past presidents and the evening closed w 1 1 n games and dancing.' Mabel Bennett was general chairman in charge of the af fair, assisted by Susie Johns- burg. Miss Adabee Seiler was program chairman. . :Next meeting of the lodge will be Tuesday night when Ethel Lindholm. Portland, state organizer of the lodge, will be present. The party at Miss Seller's home was for past presidents and their husbands an:' the eve ning was spent in games. Christ mas gifts were exchanged and refreshments served by the hostess. , Shower Honors Medford Woman Mrs. E. D. Hampson of Med ford was honored Wednesday at a shower party given' in Grants Pass by Mrs. Harold Keibel, South Pacific highway. Mrs. Mampson was the former Jea nette Turner of Grants Pass. Mrs. Clarence Willbanks was co hostess with Mrs. Keibel for the affair. Cards were played during the evening and refreshments served from a table centered with an arrangement of pink and white carnations and white tapers. Neighborhood Club To Hold Election Officers for the coming year will be elected at the meeting of the Oakgrove Neighborhood club to be held Wednesday aft ernoon at the home of Mrs. Walter Wilson, Janney Lane. The meeting will follow dessert luncheon served at 1 o'clock. Mrs. E. C. Root, president of the club, has asked that every one attending bring an exchange gift since the annual dinner party has been postponed until January. Business Women To Meet Friday . The annual Christmas party of the Medford Business and Professional Women's club will be given Friday fevening of this week at the Girls' Community club, beginning at eight o'clock, Mrs. Marjorie Hopkins is chair man in charge of the evening's entertainment and has an nounced that an old-fashioned party is being planned. 1 Each member attending, is asked to bring a piece of costume jewelry as an exchange gift. Extension Unit Plans Program , Medford Extension unit will hold the December meeting Wed nesday at the courthouse, be ginning at 10:30 a. m. The morn ing session will be given over to a business meeting and an ex change of Christmas gifts and a covered dish luncheon will be served at noon. The afternoon meeting will be conducted by Mrs. C. C. Sater, president of the Medford Garden club, who will speak on "Christ mas Decorations." Past Grands Club Announces Dinner Husbands of members of the Past Noble Grands club, Olive Rebekah lodge, will be guests for the annual Christmas party planned for Thursday evening of this week. The affair will be in the form of a dinner at 6:30 o'clock at the I.O.O.F. hall, 221 West Sixth street, and will be followed by a program and ex change of gifts. Mrs. Iva Walden, 4613. w Past Presidents '" Are Entertained Past presidents of the Med ford tent, Daughters of Union Veterans, were entertained at the home of Mrs. Richard Klemm, 1119 West Main street, for dessert luncheon the after noon of December 2. Dessert was served from . a table with an unusual center piece featuring the Christmas theme and a music box, de signed as a church. Guests were seated to the music of the chimes from the box. The music box is the property of Mrs. Michaelene O'Day Basey of Ashland. Present for the affair were Miss Ora Cox, past national president of the DUV; Dr. Susie V. Standard, departmental of ficer; Mrs. Walter Kindred, Mrs. Walter Rowley, Mrs. George Neilson, Mrs. Francis Brisbine, Mrs. Roy G u y e r and Mrs. Klemm. , ' Daughters Plan Yuletide Party The December" meeting of the Lrater Lake chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will be in the form of a Christ mas party and will be held at the home of Mrs. E. M. Wilson, 340 South Riverside avenue, Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p. m. There will be a Christmas program and a Christmas tree and each member is - asked to bring a eift for exchange. Mrs. Wilson will ' be assisted by Mrs. T. J. Gifford and Mrs. Volney Dixon. Auxiliary Plans Family Gathering Members of the local ladies' auxiliary No. 421 to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners No. 2067, have planned a family Christmas party to fol low the regular business meet ing Friday night at Carpenters' hall. Community singing of Christmas carols and games are planned for the evening. Each person attending is to bring a gift for exchange and each wom an attending is asked to bring a pie for the refreshment hour. Sergeant and Bride Now in Ohio City Sgt. and Mrs. William C. Dean are n o w in Dayton, O., where Sgt. Dean was recently transferred from the air base at Fresno, Cal. Mrs. Dean is the former Patricia Fisher, daugh ter of Mrs. Clara Fisher, 512 South Holly street, and her wed ding to Sgt Dean took place Nov. 11 In Fresno., . Couple Leave Tuesday To Live in Washington i Mr. and Mrs. Albert T. Ken- yon left Tuesday morning for Ft. Lewis, Wash., where Mr. Kenyon will be director of civil ian training at the post. The Kenyons had resided in Medford for the past two years.
