X i NAVY ANNOUNCES PLANS TO EXPAND ADAIR HOSPITAL Albany, Dec. 8 All available faculties at the Camp Adair hospital will be employed and enough will be added to accom modate 3000 patients when tee United States navy take ever, LtJ. O'DonneU came to Albany to make' arrangements for handling of' mail through the Albany postoffice for the hospi tal, and to launch preparations for accommodation of patients, and an estimated 1000 doctors, nurses and attendants who will be stationed there. O'DonneU, will be men whose homes are In the Pacific northwest, but patients will re present all parts of the United States, all coming here via Pa cific ports. Lt. O'DonneU discussed civil ian housing problems at the Albany Chamber of Commerce office, warning that the heaviest impact will probably come from relatives of men confined at the hospital. Patients will be of various types, including both ill and wounded, and will be in all: stages of recovery, from the very ill to. the convalescent, he said. ' At Camp Adair Lt. O'DonneU is effecting the formal transfer of the hospital from the army to the navy. Advance naval per-: sonnel will begin arriving here in about two weeks, he predict-; ed, but he was unable to say; Just when the navy will have the hospital in full operation. Murderer To Start State Prison Term Fred Alva Bailey, 27, sentenc ed to a life term in state prison on cdnviction of the first degree auto Jack slaying of Ira Clyde Carman, 45, near here last Sep tember 3, will be taken to the state prison, at Salem tomorrow by Deputy Sheriff William Gren- bemer and others. Be was sen tenced week ago by Judge H, K, Hanna. He was scheduled to leave Thursday, but sheriff office business prevented. The jury that tried . Bailey made a recommendation of life imprisonment. Use Mail Tribune Want Ada. WILLIAM MARTIN DIES. GOLD HILL William W. Martin passed away in Gold Hill Friday morn ing at the age of 73. For the past 60 years he had lived in Oregon, many years of which were in the Lake Creek district He is survived by three sisters and a half-sister; Mrs. Nora Weyand, Colusa, California; Mrs. Gertrude Lane, Arbuckle, Calif ornia; Mrs. Mamie Peterson, Stanwood, Wn.; and Mrs, Edna Van Dvek. Medford. Services will be held la the Conger-Morris Chapel at 3 p. m Monday with the Rev. Harry Hansen officiating. Interment will be In IOOF cemetery. Workmen Fall Tree On Library Grounds City workmen today started to cut down the old pine tree at the public library, that has been a landmark of west Mam street for years. The tree Is about 70 years old and Is lo cated near the corner of Main street and Oakdale avenue. It was not a sightly tree, and was twisted. The tree will be cut down in sections, and will wind up in a woodpile. It was feared it might fall in a strong, wind. NEW FURNITURE FIRM TO OPERATE IN BEND Bend, Dec. 7 Organization in Bend of the Oregon Trail Furni ture Shops, healed by J. S. Sammons of Portland, was an nounced here Wednesday with release of the news that the Oregon Trail Manufacturing company of Bend has been dis solved. Officials of the new firm have revealed plans for extensive development of the Bend plant at the end of the war, and have indicated that the enlarged firm will be one of Bend's largest manufacturing concerns. 36 DEATHS RECORDED IN COUNTY DURING OCTOBER There were thirty-six deaths jn Jackson county in October, according to figures given in the Dec. 8 issue of tht Oregon Health Bulletin.
