of the nation's biggest produc
ers of bombing planes, will get
out of the airplane business after
the war and go back to making
automobiles, including a new
light, low-priced car, Henry
Ford II, grandson of the founder,
said today.
Ford, 26, said at his first New
York press conference that the
proposed postwar light Ford
would sell IS to 20 per cent be

A barefoot -little Filipino lad
brought a pencilled note to guer-,

said that 64 Japanese had just
passed through the village ot
Llorente, 15 miles north of us,
and were headed our way.
The guerrilla colonel decided
this, was a golden opportunity
for an ambush and to try out
the Garand rifles which he had
Just received for his little army.

A lieutenant and 20 men cross
ed the bay In outrigger canoes
to slip around behind the Ja
panese and the larger force mov
ed out to the north fora frontal
attack.
It worked like a charm. The
smaller force cut In behind the
Japs and took up positions on
each side of a 100-yard cause
way and on a hill about 500
yards to the rear. When the Ja
panese came out In the open
and started to cross, the guer
rillas opened up. The Japanese
were so surprised they Just stood
in confusion for a few minutes.
Then they suddenly hit the dirt.
Our frontal force didn't get
to the causeway In time to block
the other end but by the . time
we came up the Japanese com
mander realized he was trap
ped. Some of the Japanese dived
into the water and others scat
tered into the rocks along the

But that didn't meet with the
guerrilla plans. The Filipinos
charged in on the survivors and
only a handful of Japanese man
agde to escape. In the morning
we counted 29 bodies on the
causeway alone and there were
only two guerrilla casualties
two men wounded.
The booty Included several
rifles, one mortar, and two au
tomatic rifles of American man
ufacture, apparently part of
what the Japanese captured on
Bataan,
The Filipinos are masters of
stalking and ambush and the
Japanese long since have ceased
sending out small parties be
cause the guerrillas invariably
destroy them. The Filipinos are
particularly effective In silent
attacks, using only bolos.
Due to lack of weapons the
guerillas are unable to fight
pitched battles.
