After that lecture, believe it or not, I received an official com munication from the Nebraska State Dental Society or Associa tion (I forget the actual name), anyway some organization of dentists, expressing approval of my teachings about care of the teeth, oral hygiene, dentistry, etc, I hasten to explain, however, that it was some time after that, as nearly as I can recollect, that I tossed toothbrushes and den tifrices out of the window, so far as preservation of the teeth is concerned, and probably few dentists in Nebraska . have ap proved of anything I have said or taught about the teeth or their care since then. She was still a little agitated over Maggie. Maggie was a cock er spaniel. Born on Attu, her sailor master had had no trou ble getting her down to the states. But immediately on ar riving he had received orders to leave for the east coast that night. Those in authority had turned thumbs down on Maggie going along. So he had dashed about, try ing to find some one who'd bring Maggie along to him, later on; there shouldn't be much delay as sailors were constantly on the move. Finally he found one who was leaving the very next day. He couldn't keep Maggie that night as hotels have pretty strict rules regarding doggy tenants. I saw 'him when he was try ing to persuade the matron to keep Maggie over night and his air of harrassed motherhood should have struck me as funny but it didn't.
