Clicquot Club Bottling Co. 301 NORTH FIR STREET ELDERLY SLAYER St. Helens, Ore., Dec. 1 (U.R) Benjamin Franklin Maile 73-year-old murderer whose con science caused him to confess a 39-year-old murder, today was awaiting receipt of 'a railroad ticket for his return to West Vir ginia, scene of the crime. Maile has been living under the name of A. J. Prichard near this little town on the Colum bia river below Portland, The case first developed last May when he waled into the sheriff's office at St. Helens, the county seat, and told Sheriff M. R. Calhoun that he Is the man wanted for the West Virginia murder in 1905 of Walter O. Smith, a crippled school teacher who had punished Maile's son for a trivial offense. High School News rrldiy. Dm. TRIBU1V2 THREE USED TIRES OFF TO PRISONERS Relatives and friends of pris oners of war in the Philippines may send messages up to Dec. 15, according to a new release received at the local Red Cross office yesterday and announced today. This extends the dead line two weeks. It is pointed out that the messages must be sent through the Red Cross home service department. Another release is to the ef fect that the Japanese govern ment has reported arrival in Kobe. Japan, of Red Cross re lief supplies fpr prisoners of war held by the Japanese. The supplies, valued at., $1,500, 000 have been stored at a Rus sian port for about a year. In cluded - are 300,000 11-pound food packages, 2,661 cases of drugs ' and medical supplies, thousands ,of sets of clothing and pairs of shoes, shoe repair Kits, toilet articles, a million cigarettes and cases of Y.M.C.A. books and religious and recrea tional supplies. A delegate from the Interna tional Red Cross committee met the ship upon arrival to direct forwarding of the materials to allied prisoners, the report states. The delegate has been instructed to make every effort to see that supplies are sent to camps which did not receive their share of the previous ship ments sent on the Gripsholm In i4Z and 1943. She told of the rise of the Hitler youth organization and the tremendous problems Amer ican youth of today will have to cope with in future years be cause of this organization. Medford Senior high school has been assigned a quota of $4000 to be raised during the Sixth War Loan drive. H.E.C.A., social studies honor club, will handle the applications for bonds.
