. v.v- TEH MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE ' fliursdar. Nor. II, 1944 Your Health and Its Care . BY DR. WILLIAM BRADY. M. D. . ' Readers should addrass iaquirtM to) Of. William Brady 268 El Camloo. Bawly HUls CalU. GRITTING THE TEETH IN SLEEP ' . Dead and burled, I hope, are nearly all of the. old Sairey gamps, including the vehement Auniie mn" I still get warm behind the ears when I recall how Auntie Binnell disposed ot me once and for all. It was the day after the very first ap pendicitis op eration in our neck " of ' the Ot. Bradf woods done (I suppose one might fairly say performed in - that particular instance) by the doughty Dr. A. L. B. about the only one in the com munity who was qualified to do major surgery anyway, upon a patient who had been treat ed with ice. bagc over - the southwest section. Auntie Bin nell made the rounds with the news that when "that butcher" cut the poor little girl open they found her "Insldes frozen solid." Speaking as a sophomore medi cal student I said that was ab surd that no amount of cold on the surface could lower the temperature of any internal or gan or tissue appreciably in any circumstance, as long as the pa tient lived. Auntie Binnell paused only long enough to give me a withering . look. "You'll know more when you grow up;"- she remarked, and went on 'With her tirade against "that butcher." At any . rate the op eration was a success. I ;ay I hope all the old witches are dead. It would more than I could stand to hear now from one of them gritting the ' teeth In . sleep is a symptom- of "worms," especially If the child looks "white around, the gills'" and seems little feverish and has a peculiar heavy sweet breath and a coated tongue and maybe a little nausea or stom ach upset. It is truly sad -to think of all the unhappy chil dren who have been piled with sickening, unnecessary and some Imes dangerous "worm medi cine" on some such flimsy pretext.- ' Clerk's Monthly Statement . ; .Jackson County, Oregon j October, 1944 The following is a statement of the proceedings of the County Court of Jackson County, Ore ' gon, showing a list of claimants for supplies and services which were passed upon during the month of October, 1944. In face there is only one way an honest doctor can tell whether a child or any one else has worms and that is by seeing the worms themselves or by find ing their eggs by microscopic ex amination. In a few Instances worms, eith er round worms or pinworms, do actually cause some Illness but If so, it is strictly a problem for the attending physician to han dle, certainly it is never wise, safe or Justifiable for any one other than the physician to give the child any remedy or treat ment purporting to be good for "worms." Well, we haven't such much about gritting the teeth in sleep we'll talk about it another day. The kids come first here. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Carbon Dioxide pl.xu (ell me if worktnf (round carbon dioxide (as has any 111 ef fect on health or whether there u any denser to life. R.
