Ludwig at quiet wed ding ceremony which look place in Portland Monday, October is. The bride H a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawrence, 1422 Euclid avenue, and Ensign Lud wig is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ludwig, 811 Austin street. The service was read by Judge Martin W. Hawkins at his home In Portland and attendants for the bride and groom were Mr and Mrs. Orvllle Malheny. Also present for the ceremony was Capt. Andrew Llnkovltch. The bride's wedding costume was a black suit worn with a black hat and a -corsage of gar denias. Both Ensign and Mrs. Ludwig are well known In Medford. Mrs. Ludwig attended Medford high school and recently has been employed at Mann's Department store and Western Thrift drug store. The ensign, a graduate of Med ford senior high school in 1935, entered the navy the next year and returned to this country last April after overseas duty. He then was In the General Motors institute and at Solomon, Mary- land, for special training and at present is in Portland on tern porary duty. Hallowe'en Party Given Thursday By Wesley League Wesley League of the Metho dist church held a Hallowe'en party Thursday evening, a large group of young people going to the Ousterhout farm home near Eagle Point, where the affair was held. Games were played around a bonfire outside after which guests were taken to a hayloft decorated with corn stalks and Jack-o-lsnterns. Lucille Seller entertained with ghost stories. Appropriate refreshments were served. Sgt. Franklin Fanger, home on furlough from Italy, was an honored guest. Birthday Party Is Given Friday For Miss Perl Mrs. Frank Perl entertained Friday evening at a party which honored her daughter, Mari anne, who celebrated her 15th birthday on Oct. 27. A group of Marianne's young friends gathered at the Perl home on North Oakdale avenue at 7 o'clock and from there attended the Grants Pass-Medford foot ball game. Returning after the game, the young people danced until midnight and were served birthday cake and other re freshments. Marianne as presented with a number of gifts. Nearly 30 young people enjoyed the party. Women Of Rotary Plan November Meeting Women of Rotary will hold the November meeting next Wednesday afternoon, with Mrs. E. C. Corn as hostess chairman. The meeting will be at the home ef Mrs. Corn's dnughter, Mrs. Clayton Lewis, 10 Kcene Way Drive', wllh Mrs. Orln Schenck and Mrs. 11. D. Christensen as assisting hostesses. Helman And Ohio Bride Married Oct. 10 Announcement has been made of the wedding of Miss Arm Ber nlce Peck of Columbus, O., to Lt. Thomas A. Helman, Medford. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde C. Peck, Colum bus, and the groom Is a son of Mrs. John H. Helman, 420 Pearl street of this city. The rites took place Oct. 10 In the parsonage of the First Meth odist church in Columbus and were performed by the Rev. George W. Dunn. Attending the couple were Lt. and Mrs. Ches ter W. Henry, Jr. Lt. Helman, who has been In the army air corps since the spring of 1842, returned to this country a few months ago after having completed 50 missions over Europe as a bomber pilot. He is now an instructor at the air base, Sioux City, Iowa. The officer graduated from high school in West Seattle, Wash.,! where the family resided before coming to Medford. Party And Dance Given Recently By Club, Lodge Members and guests of the Mistletoe club enjoyed a. card party at the Girls' Community club Wednesday afternoon. Prizes for high score at cards went to Mrs. A. B. Shirley, con solation prizes were awarded Mrs. Louis Bashaw and Mrs. Harry Miller and Mrs. Tom Lynch also was presented a prize. During the afternoon Mrs. E. W. Wakefield drew a pinochle hand with a thousand aces, ad ding to the interest of the card game. Mrs. Delorls, former member of the club now residing else where, was present for the after noon. She is In Medford to visit her mother, Mrs. William Rhine- hart. Members of the club report that the dance which Mistletoe Camp, Royal Neighbors, gave Oct. 10, was a most successful affair. Those attending were exceptionally enthusiastic about the music provided and a second dance with the same musicians is to be planned in the near future. 4 . Slater-Spannaus Rites Take Place In Yreka Home The wedding of Mrs. Lucretla Slater of Yreka, Calif., to Charles Spannaus, Dorrls, Calif., took place October 18 at Mrs. Slater's home In Yreka. Mrs. Spannaus formerly made her home in Phoenix and Is a daugh ter of Mrs. fuarle Furry of that town. Last Monday Mr. and Mrs. Spannaus entertained at dinner at their home In Yreka. Guests were Mrs. Christina London, pioneer nurse or Siskiyou coun ty, Mrs. Lcttie Stansbie of Med ford, a sister of Mrs. Spannaus, and Mrs. Minnie McClaln of Phoenix, a niece of Mrs. Span naus. The host and hostess were assisted by Mrs. Carrie Ball. Recital Planned For November S At Local Church Marguerlto Conrad, organist, will present a recital at St. Mark's Episcopal church Sunday. November 5. The recital Is sched uled for 4:30 o'clock in the aft ernoon and will be the first of a series which will be presented at the church. Mrs. Conrad, organist for St. Mark's church, received 14 years of piano Instruction, taught piano for eight years and for the past five years has been playing the organ. Officers Outpost Announces Party A Hallowe'en party has been planned for army officers and their wives In the city and will be held at the Outpost Tuesday evening. In charge of arrange ments are Lt. Irwin of the army air base and the Misses Mnrgnret Ruth Bolton and Patricia Far rell. There Is to be dancing, cards and games and refreshments will be served. The Outpost director states that all officers and their wives are cordially in vited to attend. Dwight Moore Wed In Prospect The home of Mr. and Mrs Reuben E. Moore was the scene of a pretty wedding Sunday October 22, when Miss Marjorle Squires and Pvt. Dwight V Moore were united In marriage The double-ring ceremony was read by the Rev. John Stelle of Shady Cove at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Miss Squires wore a white taffeta and tulle wedding dress and a gardenia corsage. She was attended by Miss Callccn Moore sister of the groom, Miss Moore's gown being an aqua georgette trimmed with silver spangles Her corsage was of pink and white carnations. Eldon Bean, brother-in-law of the groom, was best man. A wedding supper was served following the ceremony. The bride has been employed as a stenographer for the past three years in the California state unemployment office at Hanford and the romance began when Pvt. Moore was stationed at Lemoore field. Pvt. Moore has resided in this district since childhood. He attended PTOspect schools and Central Point high school for his senior year, grad- uatine in 1939. Pvt. Moore en listed in the army air corps in the spring of 1942 and was re rently transferred from Le moore field In California to Douglas field In Arizona. The couple went on a brief honeymoon and then returned to Prnsner.t to sDend the remaind er of the groom's furlough with his parents and sisters. They will leave November 1. , 4 Ashland Chapter Gives Reception For Star Officer Ashland Approximately 250 people gathered in the Masonic Temple in Ashland the evening of Oct. 20 to join Alpha chapter No. 1, O.E.S. in honoring Grand Conductress Lorena Mcwair oi the Grand Chapter of Oregon at a reception. The chapter rooms were decorated with fall flowers and tinted fall leaves and vines. The emblematic colors were car ried out in ribbon drapes ar ranged from the ceiling with the year 1948 in figures. A program was presented with Worthy Matron Louise Daugh erty announcing, the first num ber being an escort drill of grand officers and introduction of worthy matrons and worthy patrons present. Vocal numbers were given by the Star sextette, accompanied by Mrs. Olive Bur die, and piano solos were given by Miss Edna Dougherty. Gift presentations were made by Bethel No. 22, Order of Job's Daughters, the Masonic bodies and Friendship Chapter No. 115 of Portland. Grand chapter officers pres ent were Worthy Grand Patron Oliver Hurtlg of Portland, Past Worthy Grand Patron J. H. Har dy of Ashland, Grand Adnh Beulah Faber of Central Point, Grand Sentinel Cecil Greene of Portland, Grand Representatives Maude Hambley of Grants Pass, Hope Wood of Medford and Vir ginia Brown of Klamath Falls. Miss Anne Carter Leavat For Collage Miss Anne Carter, daughter of Mrs. Frances Carter, 18 Haw thorne street, left Saturday for Stockton, Calif., where she will enroll as a freshman at the Col lege of the Pacific. Miss Carter attended Met-ford High school and graduated from St. Helen's Hall in Portland. Miss Carter plans to major in psychology. The bride is the former Doris Mae Scott of Medford and Portland and Aviation Student Vandagrift is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Vandagrift, 417 North Oakdale avenue. Medford Family Holds Reunion After Wedding A family reunion was recent ly held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Rutherford, 14 West Jackson boulevard, with all their children at home for the first time in five years. Occasion of the reunion was a family wedding, the reunion being held following the wed ding of Miss Mabel Azevedo to Cpl. Duane Rutherford. The rites took place at the Presby terian manse at Jacksonville October 14 with the single-ring ceremony performed by the Rev. Lawrence Mitchelmore. The bride Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Reader of Ir win, Calif. Cpl. and Mrs. Rutherford left October 15 for Santa Monica, Calif., where he was recently transferred from Hammond General hospital, Modesto, Calif. He Is a veteran of two years' service in the south Pa cific. Also here for the ceremony and reunion were Cpl. Ruther ford's twin brother, Pfc. Don Rutherford, and Mrs. Ruther ford, and the corporal's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson and chil dren of Grand Island, Neb. Pfc. and Mrs. Rutherford reside in St. Louis, the serviceman being stationed at Jefferson barracks. All have returned to their homes. Ickcn of Blauvelt, New York, announce the marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth Isabelle, to Doris Raymond Bellows, United States navy. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bellows of route 1, box 571, Medford. The marriage took place Sep tember 23 in Philadelphia, Pa. The bride and groom are now in Medford to spend several days with Mr. and Mrs. Bellows, Sr., and will leave about the middle of November to return to Philadelphia where Mr. Bel lows reports. The rites were read at four o'clock In the after noon ' by the Rev. Wolford A. Dawes of the Medford Baptist church. Relatives and friends present for the service were the bride's mother, Mrs. Warfleld, the groom's sister, Miss Marie Hick son of Klamath Falls, Mrs. June Higgins and two children, Viv ian Mulhollen. Arlene and Doris Hickson and Mr. and Mrs. Clif ford Hickson. A reception followed the cere mony and the bride and groom returned later that evening to Klamath Falls where they will reside. Zonta Club Wins Attendance Cup At District Meet Reports of the Zonta district conference, held October 21 and 22 in Salem were given Tuesday evening at the meeting of Med ford Zonta International held this week. Members of the Medford club were hostesses for the confer ence luncheon on Saturday and at that time Miss Joyce Bateman of Medford was featured on the program, singing several num bers. The Medford club was awarded a silver cup for attend ance, eight members attending the conference from the local club. Attending from Medford were Irean Grigsby, local president, Florene Bolton, Ethel Lathrop, Mabel Conger, Margaret Fab rick, Effie Kurtz, Anne Bateman and Stella Merrick. Some of the members continued on to Port land and Mrs. Lathrop left from Salem for Chicago. Church Announces Hallowe'en Party On Monday Night Knights of Columbus and St. Anne's Altar society of Sacred Heart parish are planning an old time Hallowe'en party. The af fair will be at the parish hall Monday, Oct. 30, at 8 o'clock in the evening and it is stated that all parishioners are invited to attend. Mrs. A. The affair honored Wayne Wakefield of the navy, who is home from Hawaii on a thirty day leave. During the dinner hour June Williams, ac companied by Nancy Swem at the piano, sang three numbers. Following an evening of Inter esting entertainment, Skipper Ralph Cook presided at a short business meeting. A picture of the class group is to be taken Sunday to send as Christmas greeting to men In the service. Church Society Plans Luncheon Plans for the annual luncheon of the Adult Missionary society of the First Christian church were made at a meeting of the executive committee held at the home of Mrs. Claud Miles on Portland avenue Tuesday after noon. The luncheon will be held in the church parlors Wednes day, November 1 at 12 o'clock noon. Past presidents of the society will be special guests at this luncheon and all members of the society are urged to be present.
