Oct. 11. 1944 Society Couple Celebrates 50th Anniversary 'At Home Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Francis Whet stone celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Tuesday at their home. 829 East iMintn street, with a rereptlon for rela tives and friends. About sixty guests signed the guest book be tween the hours or v:ju ana 10:30 p m. Mrs. Whetstone wore a white satin dress, fashioned the same as her wedding gown 80 years ago, with a string of pearls and an orchid corsage, anniversary gifts from her husband. The anniversary wedding cake, topped with a golden bell, cen tered a table decorated with fall flowers of golden hues and yel low taners. After Mr. and Mrs. Whetstone had cut the frist slice, the cutting and serving was com pleted by Mrs. Whetstone's sis ter, Mrs. Dora Bower of San Francisco, and Mrs. J H. Dally and daughter, Beverly. Mrs. Doris Waltermire and her daughter-in-law. Carol served punch. The Whetstone's two sons from Ashland and Dunsmulr, Calif., were here for the cele bration and Wednesday the the couple left for Dunsmulr to spend some time with their son In that city. Mr. and Mrs. Whetstone were married at the home of Mrs. Whetstone's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cook, of the Applegate dis trict and both are members of pioneer families of Jackson coun ty. i Med ford Couple Married Monday At Church Here Announcement was made this week of the wedding of Mrs. Katherine Satterlee and James D. Fleming, both of Mcdford. The wedding took place Mon day, Oct. 10, at the First Metho-. dist church here with the Rev. Louis C. Kirby reading the cere mony. ' A small group of relatives Witnessed the service. Mr. and Mrs. Fleming are on wedding trip and will be at home to their friends at 311 South Laurel street after the lirst of November. Both Mr. and Mrs. Fleming have resided here many years and hava a wide circle of friends. Mrs. Fleming is a member of the Medford Zonta club and of the Eastern Star. The wedding took place Sept. 2B at the home of the bride's parents in Hastings and Lt. and Mrs. Fifer, Jr., are now making their home at 418 North Joe avenue in that city. Lt. Fifer is a graduate of Med ford senior high school and later attended Oregon State college. After entering the army he stud ied at Yale university and Is now stationed at Harvard, Neb., with an engineer's unit. While attending school here Lt. Fifer made his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Fannie Fifer, 10 Almond street. State President Canton Auxiliary . To Visit Medford Pluns were made for the offic ial visit here of Mrs. Viola Spen cer, Roscburg, state president of the auxiliary to the I.O.O.F. Can ton, at a meeting of the Canton Siskiyou No. 18 and auxiliary here held Friday evening at the lodge hall. Mrs. Spencer will be here Nov. 13, A covered dish supper will precede the meeting on that eve ning and members of the group are urged to keep this date open. Friday's meeting, presided over by Mrs. Marie Hansen of the auxiliary, followed a cover ed dish supper. Visiting members of the or ders In the city are welcome to attend. J. Loeffler, formerly of Medford and now of Parkville, Mo. The service, read by the Rev. Richard Flagg Ayres, took place at 8 o'clock in the evening. Miss Claves' wedding gown was of white satin and her long veil was lace bordered. She carried a bouquet of white roses and orchids. Miss Jean Glaves, sister of the bride, was mald-of honor. She wore a colonial type dress of blue and carried an old-fashion ed bouquet of pink roses and gladioli. Max Glaves, brother of the bride, gave her In marriage and Dr. Loeffler served as best man for his son. Preceding the ceremony Miss Mary Ellen Loeffler, the groom's sister, sang "Ava Maria" and "O Perfect Love". The reception was In the soc ial hall of St. Michael's church. Following a week's wedding trip to the Oregon coast. Mr. and Mrs. Loeffler returned to Port land and are making their home at 3400 S. W. Marquan Road. The groom Is a senior medical student at the University of Ore gon Medical school and the bride ' is a secretary in the department of pathology at the school. Dr. and Mrs. Loeffler visited briefly in Medford after the wedding and then returned to Parkville, Mo., where they are now residing while the doctor Is serving as a lieutenant-command er In the navy. Golden Wedding Is Celebrated By Couple Here Mr. and Mrs. Ralph T. Miller of 233 South Riverside avenue celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Sunday with a family reunion and dinner at home. Here for the reunion were their son, Roy G. Miller, Mrs. Miller and their daughter, Linda, Tacoma, and three nieces, Mrs. Walter Selbert, Mrs. Charles Rus sell, Pocatcllo, Ida., and Mrs. Thomas Whalcn, Superior, Wy. Two grandsons have been In service overseas. Sgt. Gordon Miller, now in France, made his home here with his grandpar ents until entering the service. First Lt. Glenn Miller, recon- Inalsance pilot, was recently list- ed as missing in action over France. The Millers have resided In Medford for the past eight years. Susan Coffman Is Honor Guest Little Susan Coffman celebrat ed her third birthday with a par ty Thursday, October 5. The af fair was at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Coffman in Phoenix. Moore-Coleman Wedding Rites Held In Church Miss Violet Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evan L. Moore, of Medford, and Bueford W.I Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Coleman of Ashland, were married the evening of Oct. 8. The candlelight service was read in the Seventh Day Adventist church by the Rev. Harold Strever of Coquille, Ore., an ar rangement of palms and gladioli forming a setting for the bridal party. Miss Moore, given In marriage by her father, wore a gown of white satin. Her fingertip veil i fell from a seed pearl coronet ; and she carried a bouquet of white rose buds and fern with white satin streamers. The bride's sister, Mrs. Roy Carothers of Portland was ma-tron-of-honor. She wore a floor length gown of pale blue and carried pink and white rosebuds. The Misses Shirley Coleman, sister of the groom, Barbara Woolvcn, Rcxine Rolls, Alice Clary and Mrs. E. J. Carothers were bridesmaids. All wore long gowns of pink and blue and carried bouquets ot rosebuds. Darrel C. Coleman was best man for his brothers, and Les lie Moore, brother of the bride, Willis Age, Clair Vogcl, George Davis, Max Maricle, USN, were ushers. Litle Janet Couch, dressed In a long pink and blue gown, was flower girl ar.d she was escort ed down the aisle by little Bud die Davis. The bride's mother had select ed a soldier blue dress with black accessories for the wed ding and the groom's mother wore a powder blue dress, with black. The reception which followed the service was at the homo of Mr. and Mis. Waller Corwln, with about 175 guests attending. The bride and groom cut the wedding cake and Mrs. Corwin served. Mr. and Mrs. Coleman made a wedding trip to I'ortlond and are residing here for the pres ent. Tho groom is awaiting army Induction orders. Mrs. Coleman Is a graduate of the Rogue River Academy of Medford while the groom attend ed Union College In Nebraska. Skating Party Well Attended Members of Loyal Workers club of First Christian church held n roller skating party Mon day night with about BO young people in attendance. The club plans to make this a monthly party. Anyone Interested may get In touch with members of the club for their tickets. Announces Meeting First meeting of the fall for the Disabled American Veter ans' auxiliary will be held Tues day night at the armory at 8 p.m. It Is stated that plnns for full and winter activities of the group will be made, including a rummage sale. Smith, Mrs. Gladys M. King, Mrs. Sam Bunch of the Illinois Valley club. Mrs. Smith, state president, also spoke during the day arid told of the advance that has been made by Oregon gardeners In hybridiz ing. Mrs. R. N. Finney, president of the Jacksonville club, gave a demonstration on the making of dish gardens for hospitalized servicemen, shut-ins or the home. Gentner, vice-president for this district, made re commendations for post war plans, stressing the value of the return of Arbor Day observance. More than 80 persons register ed for the meeting. Registration was in charge of Mrs. J. C. Ottin ger and Mrs. R. E. LeVandcr of the Talent club. Large Attendance Features Meeting Of Zuleima Temple An exceptionally large attend ance marked the meeting of Zu leima Temple, Daughters of the Nile, held last Saturday In Grants Pass. Patricia Fisher ' Engaged To -Wed I Army Sergeant Mrs. Clara Fisher of 512 South Holly street announces the engagement of her daugh ter, Patricia, to Sgt. William Dean, army air corps. The wed ding will be an event of the near future at Sacred Heart Catholic church here. Miss Fisher has resided In Medford her entire life and both she and her mother have a large circle of friends in the city. Miss Fisher graduated from St. Mary's Academy here with the class of 1943 and since has been a student at the South ern Oregon College of Educa tion in Ashland. Sgt. Dean is from Dayton, Ohio, and is stationed at the Medford army air base. Lt. Jack Keaveny Weds Miss Grayson In Texas Service Miss Margaret Lucille Gray son and Lt. Jack F. Keaveny were married October 4 at a large wedding in the Baptist church at Bosqueville, Texas. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Grayson of Waco L" 8 "". " John Keaveny of Jacksonville. Miss Grayson, given in mar riage by her father, was gowned in an ivory satin dress with long train. The full-length veil fell from a Juliet cap and she carried a white Bible with gardenias. Attendants were Miss Jane Scott, gowned in aqua net and taffeta, and the Misses Margaret Rose Scott and Mary Louise Fouts, bridesmaids, wearing identical gowns of pink and blue satin and net. Hurst of Blackland Field and grooms men were Dale Alford and Charles Davenport. A wedding reception was held at the home of the bride's par ents. Lt. and Mrs. Keaveny left aft er the ceremony for Santa Mon ica, Calif., where the lieutenant is assigned for the present. Mrs. Keaveny is a graduate of the Waco high school, a business college and also attended Baylor university for two years. Before her marriage she was a govern ment employee .Her family is well known in the Waco-Bos-queville district, being one of the regions pioneer families. Lt. Arts Study Group Meets Tomorrow With Mrs. Flinn Meeting tomorrow with Mrs. Frances Flinn, 604 West Main street, will be the arts study group 6t Medford branch, Amer ican Association of University Women. The meeting will be preceded by luncheon at one o'clock. " This winter the group has elected to study American arts of the 18th and 19th centuries. First Meeting College Women Held Saturday First fall meeting of the Rogue River Valley Womens College Club was held at the home of Mrs. J. F. Lawrence on east Main street last Saturday afternoon. The rooms were gay with autumn flowers and fifty or more members from all parts of the valley were present, as well as several guests. "Steep Ascent", Ann Morrow Lindberg's new book was re viewed by Mrs. F. J. Newman and Mrs. Blanche Canode re viewed "Under Green Apple Boughs" by Lucille Grebenc. Tea was served from a beau tifully appointed table centered by a low bowl of roses, cactus dahlias and chrysanthemums. Miss Elizabeth Burr was social chairman. Mrs. E. E. Gore, Mrs. Evanson, Miss Elizabeth McKay and Mrs. Leland Mentzer assist ed Miss Burr. Mrs. L. C. Nye of Ashland will review "Toward a Better World" by Jan Christiaan Smuts at the November meeting. White were married Sunday, Oct. 8, the service taking place at the Methodist church in Ty ler, Tex. The Rev. Swain read the double-ring ceremony. Mrs. Bowman's wedding cos tume was a navy blue suit worn with a bouquet of small white chrysanthemums and pink rose buds. Attendants were Sgt. and Mrs. Carl J. Hunt of Colorado. .Mrs. White is well known in the city, having been owner of the Bowman Beauty salon for many years. Cpl. White, who resided in Colorado before the war, served overseas with the 45th Division in Sicily and Italy and is now stationed at Camp Fannin, Tex.
