tm EFORE they went into the battle of Tarawa the 10th
q regiment of Marines sent $300 to the National War
Fund. Ernie Pyle, famous war correspodnent, tells
how American soldiers in Italy and France share their ra
tions with hungry, solemn-faced youngsters.
When the Gl's share their own money and food with
the victims of war-ravaged lands, can the home folks do
less? The people of THIS community ought to think of
that this week when they are asked to support the Nation
al War Fund and their own Community Chest.
Our men, our money and our sacrifice are in this war.
We want to get it over with just as soon as we can. Giv
ing to these sorely needed and practical philantrophies is
but one way to impart in our fighting forces the will to
win and in our gallant Allies the strength and hope that
will carry them through to victory.
Yes, we want to keep the USO clubs open for our men
homes for them away from home! We want to keep the
Camp Shows heading for the front lines. We want to re
lieve the suffering and boredom of our men in Axis war
prisons, and aid our valiant seamen in the ports of the
world.
Food, shelter, medical supplies and clothing, too, for
thosewho live in war-scorched lands. Money given to the
National War Fund makes that possible, too.
We have our own state and local agencies so deserving
of our support . . . the health and character of our Youth
must be carefully guarded in wartime for the boys and
girls of today are the hope of this Nation tomorrow.
A thousand services ... a million kindnesses . . . are
wrapped up in your sincle gift to the Medford Community
Chest and the National Var Fund. Your generosity will
be felt 'round the world. It means a speedier victory a
better world when peace is won.
