"All the heavy traffic seems to have gone now and our roads seem quite normal. Just prior to Invasion we were Inun dated with soldiers, both Amer ican and English, and heavy tanks, guns, lorries of all de scription, were drawn up on the verge of roads. Our little coun try village was alive and noisy, but the roads are free again now. "We have had trying times, since war started. Lots of life has been lost, our towns are scarred, we have spent hectic nights. It is surprising how soon one gets used to seeing streets in ruins.
