St. Louis Cardinals clinched at
least a tie for the National league

team didn't know it until today
and what's more, they didn't
care.
Southworth, who has led the
Cards to two consecutive flags,
blinked when he saw the latest
figures shown to him here by
the United Press. They Indicated
that If the second-place Pitts
burgh Pirates won all 14 games
left on their schedule and the
Cardinals dropped their remain
ing 13, they still would be tied.
"It's all very interesting," re
marked the Cards' mentor off
hand, "but it doesn't get the club
back In the groove, and It doesn't
bring back Stan Musial . or
