1 DANNY KAYE STAR MUSICAL SHOW AT CRATERjANJODAY "Up In Arms" Technicolor Comedy "Ladies Cour ageous" On Rialto Screen What happens to a neurotic youth when the draft snatches him from his elevator-operator job and what happens to the Army when he gets in it, is de veloped hilariously Jn "Up in Arms," technicolor filmusical with Danny Kaye in the star ring role and opening a three day run at the Craterian thea tre today. Kaye, long a sensation on Broadway makes his screen de but in this laughter-packed of fering. With the aid of Dinah Shore, Dana Andrews, Con stance Dowling, Louis Calhern, and other top-notch players, he offers one of the year's gayest pieces of entertainment, plus the eye-filling ensemble of 1844's Goldwyn Girls. Kaye and Andrews portray a couple of close friends who are inducted into the armed serv ices together, 'while Misses Shore end Dowling, their nurse girl friends, Join up as army nurses, and when a big trans port leaves for the South Pacific all four are aboard three of them officially, and Miss Dowl ing as an unintentional stow away. Kay's hectic efforts to get his feminine pal out of trouble turn the ship into a madhouse, and his subsequent encounter with a company of Japs puts the fin ishing touch to the breathless action. VFW and Auxiliary Will Honor Vosika Crater Lake Post No. 1833, Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold their regular semi-monthly meeting at the armory, Tuesday at 8 p. in. Corporal August Vosika, a member of the post home on leave after serving overseas with a bomber crew since April, 1943, will be honor guest. The auxiliary will also hold a business meeting, after which refreshments will be served by a committee headed by Julie Canfield at chairman. Twenty Americans Freed in Bulgaria Washington, Sept. 16 (U.R) The war department announced today that 20 American soldiers have been released frcm a war prisoner camp in Bulgaria and are now in an American hospital at Istanbul, Turkey. Sergeant Tuer of Central Ponit On Fiftieth Air Raid 15th AAF In Italy Staff Sergeant Dale Tuer, 20, son of Mrs. Ethel F. Tuer, Central Point, Ore., has joined the Half Hundred club by flying his 50th combat mission; over occupied Europe. He is the holder of the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters. Flying as a tall gunner in a Liberator heavy bombardment unit since his arrival overseas last March, Tuer has shot down three enemy planes that at tacked his formation. In addi tion to many flights over the oil refineries in Vienna and the oil fields at Ploesti he partici pated in the bombing of bridges and coastal guns in southern France preceding the invasion. K. Hanna. King was granted a suspended sentence on a check charge several weeks ago. At the time, the court issued a warning to King, that no more leniency would be extended. Au thorities declared ha has fre quently been in trouble over checks. He was arrested by the Ashland police recently, follow ing involvement of an Ashland married woman with two chil dren, who hitch-hiked to Reno with another Ashland man. Sept. 17, 1844 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE SXTafl) Rome, Sept. 18 U.R) Greek troops of the Eighth army in Italy today fought for possession of the German-held Rimini air field after a plunging one-day mile and a half advance beyond the Marano river to within three miles of the Po valley. Revealed this week for the first time to be fighting beside British, Canadian, Polish and Indian troops of the Eighth ar my, the Greeks established a new break-through record in the Adriatic corridor. Fighting o-er rough terrain against massed German infantry and artillery, they crossed the Marano and reached the airfield in a single day's action, capturing en route the town of San Lorenza-jn-Strada. Fifth army British and Amer ican forces continued their slug ging match with German de fenders of the Gothic line north and west of Florence, meeting ever-increasing onoosl'ion as they drove into mountain passes I and approached the strongest of ( the defense line's fortifications. Meanwhile, Canadian troops, who have taken a large share of the pummellng in tha Adriatic corridor between San Marino and the sea, battled a panzer grenadier division at a bridge head across the Marano two miles from the coast. They re ported the capture of 150 pris oners, Including a battalion com mander. Additional crossings of the Marano were made farther to the southwest. The villages ot Ospeduletto, four miles inland, and Patrlgnano, a mile farther west, were captured. The latter town is only two miles from the San Mareno frontier, behind which the Germans have estab lished gun positions and massed infantry.
