Fanger has just completed basic navy training at the Great Lakes Naval Training station and will return to Chicago for radio train ing. Son Born A son, named Edgar Donald, Jr., was born Aug. 31 at the Camp White Sta tion hospital to Sgt. and Mrs. Edgar Donald Gillette. The in fant weighed eight pounds and two ounces. Mrs. Gillette is the former Norma Livingston and has been residing at 513 King street. This is the Gillette's first child. Sgt. Gillette is stationed in Florida. T 10S. A. ELMHIRST The county court signed an order this morning committing Joseph Arthur Elmhirst, county I cmue-raiscr, 10 wie oiaio uus- ing before the court Tuesday afternoon to determine whether he was mentally diseased. Coun ty Judge J B. Coleman said Elm hirst would probably be taken to the hospital Thursday. Three local doctors, called by the coimtv court to examine Elmhirst. testified that in their opinion he was a paranoiac, suf fering from delusions of grand eur and persecution and was un safe to be at large. The doctors were James C. Hayes. C. I. Drummond and A. E. Merkel, county hfalth officer. Other testimony was given by Sheriff Syd I. Brown, Deputy Sheriff Jerry Pearson and Mrs. Catherine G. Elmhirst, the wife, who signed the petition request ing the hearing. Also introduced as evidence was a report made by Dr. K. H. Findley of Port land, a psychiatrist, who exam ined Elmhirst Bbout a week ago at the request of the defense. Dr. Findley reported that he consid ered the subject mentally dis eased. ' ; s f t I: MEDFORD FLIERS HOI FOR REST F Two Medford men, Lieut. Jack Keaveny and Lieut. Robert Wilcox, returned to Medford to gether Monday after serving overseas in Africa and Italy. They met in Naples and return ed to America together. Lieut. Keaveny is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Keaveny near Jack sonville, and Lieut. Wilcox, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wil cox, route 2. Lieut. Keaveny, 21, who re cently completed his Slst mis sion in Italy and is first pilot on a Liberator, has received the air medal and five oak leaf clus ters. Keaveny's crew was par ticularly fortunate in not that one member of his crew had been losti altnough a c0.pilot had uwn in ured riur na the r m s- Sions. He received his wings at Waco, Tex., and B-24 training at Fort Worth and later instruc tion in Massachusetts. He grad uated from Medford high school, in 1941 and entered the army air corps October of that year. Also visiting at the Keaveny home is Miss Lucille Grayson of Waco, Tex., fiancee of the first lieutenant, who arrived here last week. They will leave September 25 for Santa Monica, Calif., and then proceed to Texas for a visit with her parents. First Lieutenant Wilcox, bom bardier, has seen action on both the African and Italian war fronts. Ho and other crew mem bers were rescued some time ago when their plane was shot down over the water. He graduated from Medford high school and was sent overseas in November of 1943. He will proceed later to Santa Monica, Calif. Other information regarding Lieut. Wilcox's training and ac tivities was not immediately available. FIRST GAS RELIEF TO "B" MOTORISTS Washington, Sept. 13 (U.R) Motorists with "B" ration books will be first to get ration relief when more gasoline is available for civilians, an Office of War Information report on the civil ian petroleum supply disclosed today. LIBERATOR CREW KILLED IN CRASH Walla Walla, Wash., Sept. 13 U.R) The entire crew of a B- 24 Liberator bomber, six offi cers and men, was killed last night when their plane crashed and exploded four miles south of the Walla Walla army air base, it was announced by army public relations officers. The accident, cause of which was undetermined, occurred shortly after the B-24 took off from the field on a combat train ing flight.
