GAY COMEDY TOPS CRATERIAN'S NEW Jack Carson and Jane Wyman In "Make Your Own Bed" Today. With Its theme both timely end funny, "Make Your Own Bed," comes to the Craterian theater today. The subject is the shortage of domestic help so much in evidence since the start of the war. MAIL DATES FOR YULE GIFTS FOR" SERVICE PEOPLE With mailing dates for Christ mas packages for servicemen and women overseas set from September 13 to October 15 this year, the Oregon State College Extension Service Is offering a special service to help friends and relatives in packing food articles, according to Miss Mar ian Farrcll, Jackson county home demonstration agent. Beginning Tuesday, Septem ber 5, any non-parishable food article may be packed in tin cans and will be inspected and sealed at the Extension Service office In the courthouse. Sealing articles in tin cans will help prevent spoilage or drying out of the product, and insure against breakage in handling of pack ages during shipment. Miss Farrell lists the follow ing procedure for those Interest ed in this service. 1, No. 2H tin cans for sealing are available at cost at the Ex tension Service office In the courthouse. Products must be packed In a manner as to make for easy inspection of contents. 4. Can6 of food are then brought to the extension office where they will be sealed and a seal attached which will in dicate that the contents have been Inspected and abide by postal regulations. This service will be available from 12 noon to 4 p. m beginning September 5 through the mailing season. 5. The cans must be packed in containers suitable for shipment on which Is attached the fourth class merchandise sticker. These too will be furnished by the ex tension office. This outer pack age is opened for inspection, but the Inner can is not if it bears the proper label and signature of the department of agriculture. Hard candies, candied fruits, dried fruits, nuts, fruit cakes and cookies are examples of foods that may be successfully sealed in the home demonstra tion agent's office. Jams, Jelly, preserves and any food contain ing liquid cannot be sealed In this office becauso of the in ability to sterilize containers and process food In the ofice, ac cording to Miss Farrell. The following articles cannot be sent because of postal regula tions: anything containing al cohol, cigarette lighting fluid, matches, perishable articles or soft candies. The parcel is limit ed to five pounds, 15 inches in length or 36 inches In length and girth combined. Miss Farrell recommends that fruit cakes be baked in a No. 2VS can so they will fit properly into the available container. For suggestions and recipes suitable for overseas shipment a mimeograph on Food and Mail ing is available free of charge at the extensio noffice, or tele phone 3453. TULEWlWDY IS HELD FOR FIGHT Newell, Cal., Sept. 2 (UP.) Teruyuki Terao. 23 - year - old resident of the Tule Lake segre gation center from Los Angeles, was ordered held under $5000 cash bond for a superior court trial on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, following a hearing before a Justice of the peace at Alturas today, the War Relocation Authority announced. Terao was arrested after he allegedly threatened other resi dents of the center with a knife.
