Newspaper Page Textr Society and CL UBS Service League To Meet Friday Plans for fall and winter ac tivities of the Women's Service league of St. Mark's Episcopal church will be made at the first meeting since summer vacation which has been scheduled for Friday, Sept. 8. Mrs. A. G. Mc Millin, president of the league, States that the meeting will be a potluck luncheon at 1 o'clock in the new parish hall and she is anxious that all women who are members of St. Mark's church, or who are interested in the se cluding Mrs. Kinney Holmes ana oaugraer Nanette, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Smith and Mrs. Rus sell Davis. Mrs. Newbury and daughter also spent a weekend in Walnut Creek with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Newbury and family. The two travelers were away about three weeks. H. Johnson on Summit avenue. TO LT. The Medford Ministerial As sociation is honoring Rev. Ward A. Rice, retiring pastor of the First Christian Church of this i Union Association meeting at the First Methodist Church, Main and Laurel, Sun day evening, September 3, at 7:45. This is in the form of a regular church service and the people and friends of the re spective churches and citizens of Medford are invited. Rev. Rice, who has been in our city for the last year, has been asked by the Ministerial Association to bring the mes sage of the hour at this Union gathering. Rev. Rice has been one of the outstanding members of the Medford Ministerial As sociation during the past year, having served as vice president of the association. His counsel has always been respected and through his genial fellowship has greatly endeared himself to the association. A program appropriate to the occasion has been arranged by officials of the association, with Rev. Harry Hansen as pres ident and Rev. Louis Kerby as host pastor. Rev. Rice has expressed his regrets on leaving the city but feels obligated to answer a larger field of service. He has been employed as Professor of ' Practical Theology in the North west Christian College of Eu gene. Ore. Members of the Ministerial Association and a host of friends among churchmen and business affilities of Medford regret to TO BE SPEAKER REO CROSS MEET Miss Anne Bergholtz, Red Cross nutrition specialist from the Pacific Area office, San Francisco, will be guest speaker at the meeting of the Jackson County Red Cross board at the Chamber of Commerce at 12 o'clock Thursday, Sept. 7. The navy filer, who spent more than a year in the South west Pacific as pilot of a tor pedo plane, was given the medal for action against Jap warships at Rabaul on Nov. 5, 1943. The citation accompanying the medal said he went in at extremely low altitude in the face of heavy anti aircraft fire to release his tor pedo, and returned safely to his base. Lt. Marsh Is now an instructor at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Another son of the Marsh's. Pvt. Larry J. Marsh, is with the army in the European theater. but wish them well in their new venture. The Rev. Delbert Daniels, successor to Rev. Rice will be on the field sometime this week to assume his duties as the new pastor of the First Christian Church. He will receive a cor dial welcome. Farm Machine Ban Lifted Next Summer Washington, Sept. 2 U.R) J. W. Millard, retiring director of the war food administration's materials and facilities branch, predicted today thut most con trols over the production and distribution of farm machinery will be lifted by next summer. As long as the war goes on there will be "spot" shortages, he said, but output of farm im plements now has reached 100 per cent of pre-war levels. The West Coast Victory Car nival, sponsored by the Medford chapter of the Disabled Ameri can Veterans, will appear here from Sept. 18 through Sept. 24 at the corner of South Riverside and South Central avenues. The carnival includes 10 major riding devices, 10 shows, 50 fun booths and has a personnel of be tween 400 and 500. Among fea tured attractions are "Garganta." one of the world's largest goril las. The carnival Is said to be one of the largest on the Pacific coast and is the only one to have appeared in Jackson county in the past 10 years.
