Claude 'Atkins, Talent Soldier, Wins Promotion A North African Air Service Command Base Claude E. At kins of Talent, Ore., has been promoted from private first class to corporal, It was an nounced today by his Service Command squadron stationed In North Africa. Cpl. Atkins, a native of Ster ling, Colo., enlisted December 13, 1941 at Medford, Ore., and before coming overseas Janu ary 13, 1943, was stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, Fort Lewis, Washington, Phila delphia, Pa., Middletown Air Depot, Middletown. Pa., Baer Field, Indiana, State Fair Grounds, Columbus, O., Camp Kilmer and Fort DIx, N. 3. He attended the Rising Sun School of Aeronautics at Philadelphia. At present he Is in the trans portation section of his squad ron. The 22-year-old. soldier Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Atkins of Talent, and attended Medford High school where he participated in basketball, track and Softball. Before entering the army he was employed as a fruit packer by the S.O.S. Pack ing company, Medford. A brother. Pale J., Is serving i In the Hawaiian Islands with an I M. P. battalion. Cpl. Atkins, besides having the African Campaign ribbon and Good i Conduct ribbon.
