IDA !0, PAUL HENREID IN CAST AN Nancy Coleman, Nazimova Have Roles; Dick Powell On Rialto Screen. The antagonism between the titled aristocracy and the self like peasants is great. The dif ference between the ideas of democratic and feudal minded people is even greater. Never before was there a stronger con trast brought to the screen than in "In Our Time", which opens today on the Craterian's screen. The contrast is represented by Ida Lupino, playing a modern , English girl, and Paul Henreid, portraying a Polish count, in hibited with the traditions and customs of the feudal system. These two outstanding actors make this human drama of the present a memorable experience for the audience. Cast together for the first time, they play their respective roles with deep ness and perfection seldom seen. Nelson has been directed by President Roosevelt to under take a special mission to China, the White House announced to night leaving his chief aide. Charles E. Wilson, in command of the nation's armament pro gram during one of its most crucial periods. Nelson will be accompanied by MaJ. Gen. Patrick J. Hurley, eecretary of war under Presi dent Hoover, who has carried out numeous personal assign ments in far corners of the globe for Mr. Roosevelt during the last two and a half years. WPB Executive Vice Chair man Wilson, husky, amiable president of the General Elec tric company, was called to the White House shortly before an nouncement of the Nelson-Hurley mission. He told reporters he was directed by the president to "turn the heat on" for speed-ed-up output of vitally needed war materials, particularly heavy artillery, heavy trucks and radar. Wilson has a capacity for get ting on well with the military, which has a number of clashes with Nelson. Nelson recently went over the heads of army materiel officials and aked the Joint chiefs of staff tote-examine the whole supply situation after the army had challenged validity of a WPB report which held that it had ample supplies in many military items. Nelson agreed with the army, however, that there were specific dofiencies which needed to be made up rapidly. Fined $12.50 Appearing In city police court Friday, Darrell Moulton was fined $10 for viola tion of the basic traffic rule and $2.50 for driving a car without an operator's license. From Park Crater Lake Na tional Park Superintendent E. P. Leavitt and Mrs. Leavitt were in Medford Friday on business from their summer home at the park headquarters. Crofts Leaving Vernon H. Croft, assistant manager at the Medford Montgomery Ward store, is being sent to Woodland, Cal., to take over the position of manager of the Montgomery Ward store there. Croft, with his family, left Medford Saturday. Mayfleld Here Leonard May field, former principal of Med ford Senior high school, passed through Medford Saturday, re turning to his home in Marsh field after attending a meeting at Klamath Falls. At the con clusion of the school term last June, Mayfield and his family moved to Marshficld, where he assumed the position of super intendent of schools, To Elect Officers Rogue Val ley chapter, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, will hold nomination and election of of ficers for the ensuing term at its regular meeting to be held in the Medford armory Monday at 8 p. m. Plans will also be made for the next trip the group plans to make to Grants Pass, for the Sept. 18 business meet ing and social. The auxiliary will also meet Monday and re freshments will be served fol lowing the business sessions. Qualifies Cpl. Lester L. Neff, 219 N. Grape street, Medford, recently qualified as marksman with the carbine rifle, it was an nounced by the Ephrata Army Air Base., Wash., a Fourth Air Force fighter pilot training base. Cpl. Neff now wears the Marks man's badge. Wilsons Return Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Wilson returned Thursday from Seattle where they attend ed the funeral of a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jessie Downcn, who died in Pasadena. They were absent from Medford 10 days, making tho trip north by train. Mrs. Downcn will be remembered by friends here, having visited the I Wilsons a number of times. Sons Here Gerald Corcoran, petty officer first class In the United States coast guard, has arrived in Medford to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Corcoran, Ross lane, after eight months' active duty in the south Pacific. He participated in the battle of Saipan. Also here to visit with his parents and broth er is Pvt. Myron Corcoran of P't. Lewis and shortly before the arrival of these two sons a third, T'Sgt. Carol Corcoran, was here on furlough from his camp in Louisiana. The latter expects to be assigned to overseas duty soon. Inspect Air Route The avia tion sub committee of the house interstate and foreign commerce committee, including nine con gressmen and three other per sons and headed by Rep. A. L. Bulwinkle of North Carolina. ! passed through Medford on the I 10:45 a. m. United Air Line I plane Saturday. The sub-com mittee was en route to inspect facilities at Mills Field, San Francisco, following t survey of air routes and bases in Alaska. The group was accompanied by Harvey Hancock, assistant to President W, A, Patterson of UAL. Leaves Mrs. Bessie E. Med ley left yesterday by plane for her home in Portland after spending a 10-day vacation here with relatives and friends. Plan Shower A shower for the Lawrence Sanderson and Marshall Sweet families, who lost all their possessions In a fire a week ago yesterday, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Sams Valley school. Tho shower pRrty will be an all-day affair, with a picnic lunch at noon, and is being sponsored by the Beagle club, both families having for merly resided In the Beagle dis trict. The Sweets have two sons, one eleven and the second a year old, and the Sandersons have a son seven years old, a Sunday.
