Ott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ott, 630 West Fourth street, has arrived at the AAF Training Command station at Majors Field, Tex., for 10 weeks of basic flight training, accord ing to a news release from the field. He received primary flight instruction at Corsicana, Tex. i" ' ' Prowler 'Caught City police, called to the residence of 321 Mr.ple street shortly before 6 a. m. today, took into custody Pvt. William Scully of the SCU, Camp White, who was found in the garage. Police were told the soldier had been prowling around the house. He was turned over to the provost marshal's office at Camp White. www Training Lt. David S. Wil liams soon will complete his training at the combat crew training school, Sioux City, la., and be ready for overseas duty according to a news release from the Iowa base. Lt. Wil liams, co-pilot of a heavy bomb er crew, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Williams, Route 4, Medford. Prior to entering the service in March of 1943 he was a student at the University of Oregon. In Class Earl Moses Manley Is a member of the present class receiving pre-flight training at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet 'Center, according to a news re lease from the center. During the 10-week pre-flight training period the future fliers are sub jected to a rigorous program of instruction covering physical, academic and military training, the release states. Army Air Field and awarded his silver wings, symbolic of efficiency as an air crewman, according to a press release from the field. Flight Officer LeRoy was engaged here as a U. S. Forest Service Guard when he entered the air corps. Bank to Aid Baying Surplus War Goods From Government Eugene Thorndlke, manager of the Medford Branch of the First National Bank of Portland, this week announced that a de partment has been organized In the First National Bank to dis perse information regarding surplus war goods offered for sale by the federal government. Those persons, who may have a desire to buy a training plane or any other bit of surplus war property from the federal gov ernment can now get informa tion on how to go about It from Mr. Thorndlke. Mr. E. F. Slade, vice president of the First Na tional Bank In Portland, will head the new department In the Portland head office of the bank and will clear requests from the bank's branches throughout- the state. The department has been set up at the request of the sur plus war properties administra tion. Information will be available to tell how to acquire one of those puddle-Jumping army jeeps, when and If they are placed on the market. McGraw of the Port land office of Vocational Divi sion Veterans administration was here this week in the inter est of setting on foot the pro gram for education and training under Part VIII of veterans benefits as provided by congress. McGraw, representing Col. Paul I. Carter, manager Veterans Ad ministration, stated that the Southern Oregon College of Education Is one of the colleges approved by the Veterans Ad ministration in Washington to give the; training offered ex service men by the Act of Con gress. The office of the Southern Oregon College of Education has been supplied with blanks to be filed by those applying for this training. These forms and all information may be had by writing or applying personally to the office. Ex-service men and women are eligible for the bene fits. While enrolled in and pursu ing a course under this part, such person, upon application to the administrator, will be paid a subsistence allowance of $50 per month, if without a depen dent or dependents, or $75 per month, if he has a dependent or dependents.
