Aug. 18, 1944 QUALIFIED Names of men accepted for general service in the armed forces, having successfully com pleted pre-induction physical examinations In Portland last week, were released today by Jackson county selective service board No. 2. as follows: Willard Leith Christean, Eld- red Raymond Williams, Louis Reno Cuiy, Velton Van James, Charles Lemuel Paris, Raymond Curtis Johnston, Leo Charley Libolt, Robert Louis Miller, Robert Samuel Richardson Maurice Randolph Pierce, Paul Franklin Galloway, Melvln Boyd Miller, John Herbert Carl ton, Robert Edward Bifiman, Floyd Sherman Hawkins, Charles Lcroy McLaughlin and Lloyd Charles Rogers. Four board No. 2 registrants who had previously qualified for military service were in ducted Into the navy last week, it was announced today. They were Bernard William Mathews, Kenneth Merlin Stocks, Dick Lawrence Merriman, and Charles Lincoln Cummon, Jr. PETTY THEFTS REPLACE FORGERY AT CRIME TOP There has not been an arrest or a complaint filed for two weeks on a check-passing carge In this county, Sheriff Syd I. Brown reported today. For the past two years this has been the most frequent criminal offense here. However, there is an epi demic of pilfering now' going on. None of the thefU amount to much. Cabins and back porches are the favorite looting spots, with some thefts of gasoline reported. "Even If he did make a pass at someone, it would not make any difference to me," she add ed. "We have a perfect understanding." Miss Langford said she did not believe Dorsey's reported charge that Hall had been mak ing passes at Pat Dane, who is Mrs. Dorsey, at a nightcap party which preceded the free-for-all fight in the Dorsey home about a week ago. "Jon and I have been married seven years and we Just adore each other," Miss'Langford said. U4 MEET IN HAWAII A meeting between Medford twin brothers, Myrlin and Mel vln Scott, after a separation of two years, Is described In a let ter received recently by a friend here. The two men, Myrlin H. Scott, coxswain, and Melvln P. Scott, AOM 2c, met on the for mer's ship when it was at Pearl Harbor. Describing the meeting, Myr lin wrote: "Here Is a big surprise for you. It's something that hap pens once in a lifetime. I met my twin brother after being sep arated for two years. It was two years ago this month that we were separated. I guess it's one for the books.' Melvin came aboard my ship and everyone thought it was me. Boy, what a time we had. I was never so happy In all my life." A letter received shortly be fore from the twin, Melvin. stat ed that he expected to return to the United States on leave in the near future. The coxswain was in Medford in the early spring after a tour of duty which took him Into Mediterranean waters and to British Island ports. He was at San Diego for a time and at the time of writing was in the southwest Pacific. Both young men attended Medford high school. Their par ents now reside in Vancouver. Margaret Plummer Of 715 S. Oakdale Passes in Ashland Margaret Louise Plummer, 82 of 715 S. Oakdale Ave., passed away in Ashland yesterday. A resident of Oregon for the past 31 years, the deceased was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Dec. a, 1801. Survivors Include her hus band, Albert, and a daughter. Mrs. Clinton C. Archibald of Medford. Remains are being forwarded this evening by Litwiller's Fu neral Home in Ashland to Al bany, Ore.; for interment in the family plot of the Masonic cemetery In that city. Funeral services will be held in Albany at 4:30 p. m. Thursday.
