of food condemned and forfeit
ed for the following reasons:
That on or about January 18 - 24,
1944, California Preserving Com
pany did sell, ship and consign
from Los Angeles, California, In
interstate commerce to Medford,
Oregon, the said 11 Cases, more
or less, each containing 12 jars
of Catalina Brand Pure Apple
Butler,; that the said Apple But
ter is adulterated within the
purview of Title 21, Section
342(b)(2)U.S.C.A In that an ap
ple product Insufficiently con
centrated by heat has been sub
stituted wholly or in part for
Apple Butter, a food for which
a definition and standard of
identity has been prescribed by
regulations promulgated pur
suant to Title 21, Section 341,
U.S.C.A.; that the said article of
food Is misbrnnded within the
purview of Title 21, Section
343(a), U.S.C.A., in that the name
of the article "Apple Butter" is
false and misleading as applied
to a product which fails to con
form to the definition and stand
ard of identity for Apple Butter;
and, Is further mlsbranded un
der Title 31. Section 343(g) 1),
U.S C. A.. In that it purports to
be and is represented as Apple
Butter, a food for which a defi
nition and standard of identity
has been prescribed by regula
tions promulgated pursuant to
Section 341. Title 21. U.S.C.A
and it falls to conform to such
definition and standard since
the soluble solids content of the
finished article is less than 43

Whether such statistics or
any statistics show that coron
ary or other forms of heart dis
ease are actually on the in
crease I don't know. Some med
ical authorities seem to believe
there is more heart disease now
than there was twenty, fifty or
a hundred years ago. That a
good many laymen harbor the
same belief Is impressed upon
mo by letters from laymen. It
Is the conviction of these am
bitious but untrained (that is,
untrained in the science of Path
ology) experts that the alarm
ing Increase in heart disease.

smoking, drinking, coffee, eat-:

even to much starchy food
which, In their fancy, causes
"gas", and the "gas" of course

Actually there Is no reason
to imagine that any of these
causes, excepting smoking, may
contribute to heart disease. In
regard to smoking, it is the
consensus of medical opinion,
as nearly as I can determine,
that it does cause heart disease.

Efficiency of the circulation
depends not alone on the con
dition of the heart, but also
upon the state of the conduits or
blood flows. It depends on the
state of the large and small
arteries which one can feel and
see but even more, perhaps, on

minal tubes, called arterioles,
which are visible only under
the microscope and I don't
mean "capillaries", for nobory
can see or has seen a capillury.
