Rogers, pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress, received his wings at the Pecos, Texas army air field and completed his B-17 training at Ardmore field, Oklahoma. Completing Training Cpl. Jess Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Francis of Butte Falls, is completing his training on a Lib erator bomber at the Pueblo ar my air base, according to an an nouncement received from the base. He is a gunner on his crew. and is expected to serve overseas I soon. Cpl. Francis entered the: service in May, 1943, ; Dr. Jennings Leaves Dr. George S. Jennings, Saginaw drive, left last night for Los An geles, where he will spend the next month taking a post-graduate course in major surgery at the College of Osteopathic Phy sicians and Surgeons. Dr. Jen nings' office in the Medford Cen ter building will be open until the middle of August. He ex pects to return to Medford Sep tember 5. Miiiioni Completed SSgt. George R. (Dick) Roberts of Med ford, gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, has completed his re quired number of missions over enemy territory in the European theater and, stationed in Eng land, Is now awaiting further orders. He has beeii awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and . also has the Air Medal and four Oak Leaf Clusters. ... Howser Coming L. O. How ard of Medford has received word from J. J. Howser former resident of Medford and the old est living ex-mayor of this city, stating that he expects to visit friends in the county some time soon. Coming to Medford from Portland in 1895, Howser was elected a member of the Oregon legislature the next year Fol lowing that, he was elected and served as mayor until 1901. He joined the Medford I. O. O. F. lodge 4S years ago Mr. Howser will now be transferred to a na val unit afloat or to another shore station for further instruc tion and work. Completes Course Thomas Harold Gerety, 18, seaman first class, has completed the course of training in the aviation ord nance school at the naval air technical training centei. Officer Here Lt. (jg) Thomas R. Sedell spent three days in Medford last week with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Sedell. 22 Tripp street. This was the first time in three years that Lt. Se dell and his brother had been together. Lt. Sedell is a mem ber of the navy dive-bomber squadron to which Lt. (jg) Don Gillespie of Medford belongs, Lt. Gillespie having arrived home last week. The two young men have been serving in the Pacific for the past year. Lt. Sedell left Friday by plane for. San Lean dro, Cal., where his family re sides, and from there is to report to Boston. "HONOR STUDENT" IN 47 BURGLARIES Oakland, Calif., Aug. 5 (U.R) A former University of Califor nia honor student who admitted committing 47 burglaries because he "liked to live well" was held by Oakland police tonight. The 20-ycar-old youth, whose library contained an extensive collection of crime detection, told police he specialized in loot ing shipyard workers' homes "because they are careless of their money." Described as a "super-thief" by police who said he always wore gloves on the job, and rode a bicycle to "case" homes at 4 a. m., the amateur crime detector was picked up by San Francisco police when he at tempted to sell a stolen camera and field glasses. The medical clinic maintained foT the past 18 months in the Liberty building by the army for servicemen and their fam ilies, will close Monday, Aug. 7, it was announced yesterday by Lt. Col. G. N. Ragan, execu tive officer of the station hos pital, Camp White. Col. Ragan stated that the clinic would oper ate Monday, but would close after the day's work. It was explained by the of ficer that severe curtailment of iho ctatinn hnsnital staff made it impossible to staff the clinic any longer. Peterson, Concord truck driver, had a miraculous escape from death today when the gaso line tanker he was driving went up in a sheet of flame when struck by a Sacramento-bound local freight train at the Walnut Creek crossing.
