Snow White Returns This Week

Mickey Rooney Tops Stars;
"Imposter" Heads Fine
Twin Bill at Rialto.
Heralded as the best in the
popular Andy Hardy series,
"Andy Hardy's, Blonde Trouble"
opens today for a three-day run
at the Craterian theater. In this
sparkling new laugh hit Andy
is in college and in serious heart
trouble with three dazzling and
glamorous blondes making leap
year passes at the love-sick
youngster.
Mickey Rooncy, of course,
plays his usual role as Andy
with the young star at his best.
Others in the cast are Lewis
Stone, famous character actor
and long time favorite, Sara
Haden, Bonita Granville and
Herbert Marshall.
One of the finest bills to come
to the Rialto screen for many
weeks will open today at the
west side playhouse. "The Im
poster," starring Jean Gabin,
heads the twin features. This
dramatic picture Is claimed by
critics to be one of the year's
best pictures. The companion
screen hit is "Girl From Mon
terey." a
FILIPINOS MOBILIZED
FOR DEFENSE IN RAIDS

radio announced today the civil
ian population of the Philippines
has been mobilized for defense
"against enemy terror raids."
The broadcast, recorded by
United Press, San Francisco,
manifested Japanese anticipation
of air attacks on the Philippines
by United States airmen now
within striking range of the
Archipelago.

Producer Jack Schwarjs said to
night he was holding tha leading
dramatic role in the film "En
chanted Forest" for Frances
Farmer.
"I am delaying production for
a month so that if Miss Farmer
is able to take the role, it will
be ready for her," Schwara eaid.
He added that If the actress,
released from mental hospital
three weeks ago as cured, was
still in need of rest, ha would
give her the leading role in his
next production.

The War Relocation Authority
today labeled as a "phony" the
hunger strike of H Japanese
Americans in the isolation area
of tha Tule Lak segregation cen
ter, revealing that a consider
able amount of food had been
left In the stockade before the
men started thetr demonstration
July 19.
The amount of food left In the
area was too great to have been
entirely consumed by these men,
the WRA said.
Between June 29 and July 19
the following food was delivered
to th isolation area: 115 pminds
of fish and 300 pounds of rice,
as well as regular quantities of
meat, eggs, bread, vegetables and
milk, the WRA Bunuunccd,

three months of 194-4 were val
ued at $3,437,000,000, an in
crease of 41 per eent over the
same period of 1913.

way back ta Nevada tonight, rid
ing in an old Ford with her fath
er and uncle.
She left with the. blessing of
the Antioch police department
which had held her In jail as a
moneyless, hitch-hiking vagrant,
Smiling and cheerful, still
wearing the blue jeans and
heavy work shirt she had on
when she was taken In custody
two days ago, Miss Farmer start
ed the 200-mile return trip over
the same route she had traveled
alone and without funds earlier
this week.
The ride back to Yerington.
Nev., a small town some 100
miles south of Reno, may be the
first leg on her comeback trip to
fame and fortune as a film star.
A dramatic part in a movie,
"The Enchanted Forest," may
still be waiting for hor, despite
her present escapade.
Miss Farmer presumably had
been ready for a movie come
back three weeks ago when she
was released from a Washington
state mental hospital and pro
nounced fully recovered from
mental illness.
