Jones Of wide interest in the valley are the dutalls of the wedding of Miss Julie Carpenter of Medford and Captain W. Garland Jones of the 14th Cavalry Group, United States army, which took place July 2. Mbs Carpenter is the daugl er of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter, Topsidcs and Captain Jones is the son of Mrs. K. G. Jones of Richmond, Va., and Rocky Mount, N. C. The Episcopal service took place in the chapel of the 14th Cavalry Group. Camp Maxey, Texas, and was read at four o'clock in the afternoon by Major Webster, Episcopal chap lain of the 99th Division. The chapel had been arranged with bouquets of white stock, calla lilies and gladioli and seven branched candelabra with light ed tapers. For the processional the cha pel organist played the tradi tional Bridal Chorus from Loh engrin and Mendelssohn's Wed ding March was used for the re cessional, Miss Carpenter's wedding gown was of Ivory satin with a court train. Her veil, of net, was held with a lace cap and she carried a bouquet of white orch ids and watsonla. The bride was given in marriage by her father and attending her as matron-of-honor was the groom's sister, Mrs. D. E. Bither of Richmond. Mrs. Bither wore white crepe print afternoon frock with a white hat and carried an arm bouquet of agapanthus. For her daughter's wedding Mr Car-' penter wore an afternoon dress of oyster white crepe and a white hat. Her flowers were a corsage of lavender orchids. Captain E. O. Benson was best man for Captain Jones and the groom was also attended by a guard of honor made up of Cap tain McDermott, Captain Walk er, Captain Prltchard, Captain Gels, Captain Alexander, Lieu tenant Peterson and Lieutenant Slusher, all officer! of the 14th Cavalry Group. Captain Jones and his bride left the chapel under the crossed a ords of the guard of honor, while the cavalry band played traditional cavalry songs, and then were taken to the officers' club, where the reception took place, in an armoured car deco rated with the cavalry colors of blue and yellow. During the reception the bride cut the three-tiered wed ding cake with a sword. The reception was attended by the commanding officers of the 14th Cavalry, including Col- onel and Mrs. Devine und their daughters, Major and Mrs. Web- . iter and other officers of the group and their wives. For traveling Mrs. Jones wore a navy blue linen Jacket suit with lime accents and lime col ored hat and glovc. Her corsage was of orchids. After the wed ding trip to Galveston, Captain and Mrs. Jones will be at home In Paris, Texas. Both Captain and Mrs. Jones are in the ser vice, Mrs. Jones recently having i tered the women's branch of the army air corps for pilot's training at Avenger Field, Texas Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter re turned to Medford yesterday, Teacher Leaves For New Jersey To Make Home Miss Miriam Burton left this morning for New Jersey where tlM expects to remain indefinite ly. Ivle, both of Medford. The service took place at high noon, being performe-l at the post chapel by Chaplain Dunn. Miss Poling's wedding cos tume was a two-piece navy blue suit with white accessories and she wore a corsage of white gar denias. Her attendant was Mrs. Lynn Reed and Aviation Cadet Lynn Reed was best man for Cadet Ivie. Music for the wedding was provided by a sergeant of the C jdet Club. Following the service the bridal party was served a wed ding dinner at the Hotel Guntcrj In San Antonio. Both the bride and groom are veil known in the valley. Mrs. Ivle, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Poling of Route 4, was a member of the 1944 graduating class of Medford senior high school. Cadet Ivle, whose par ents are Mr. and Mrs. Merle Ivie of 619. Second street, alro attended Medford high school, leaving school in 1942 to enter the service. Cadet and Mrs. Ivle have taken up residence at 105 East Rosewood avenue, San Antonio, which Is near the cadet's station at Hondo Field. Neighborhood Club Honors Gustafsons At Farewell Party Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Gustafson of 907 North Riverside avenue were honored at a farewell din ner and lawn party glvon Satur day evening, July 1, by mem bers of the Oak grove Neighbor hood club. The affair was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Root in the Oak Grove dis trict, Mrs. Root being president of the club. The Gustafsons, who lived in the Oak Grove district for many years, left yesterday for Long view, Wash., where they will reside. Mrs. Gustafson was a member of the Neighborhood club for several years. Dinner was served outdoors at seven o'clock and was follow ed by croquet, ping pong and other games and group singing. Mrs. Root presented Mrs. Gus tafson with a gift from the club membership. About 30 friends of the Gus tafsons were pleasant affair. tafsons were present for the Accordion Pupils To Hold Picnic Members of the Accordlanas and the Accordionaires, older pupils of Mrs. Eve Prentice, will hold the annual picnic this after noon at Twin Plunges In Ash land. The pupils are to meet at Mrs. Prentice's atudlo, S17 New town street, at one o'clock for transportation and all are to bring their accordions. Last Thursday afternoon an enjos-able picnic was held at Ja sor Hot Springs for the Ac cirdion Trooper ,uir parents ana rrlencis. The Troopers are all under 12 years of age. A pro gram of accordion music follow ed the picnic lunch and. the group also enjoyed swimming. Honolulu Beildent Visiting In Mtdford itfiss Marian Huntley of Hono lulu is in Medford and Is the guest of Mrs. Laura Tularski, 814 North Rlversido avenue. Miss Huntley's father, A. O. Huntley, of Myrtle Creek, is a patient in Sacred Heart hospital here and she arrived the middle of last week to be with him and! to visit Mrs. Tularski. Miss Huntley was In Honolulu at the time of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor and was an eve witness of the attack. The Findleys, accompanied by their three chil dren, have been guests at the home of Dr. and Mrs. B. L. '..-geson. 34 Glenn Oak Court and have also spent some time at their cabin on the Rogue river near MeLeod. Last Sunday evening the Lagesons entertained about 20 f '.ends of Captain and Mrs. Findley and Thursday "tr. and Mrs. Raymond Fish entertained a small group of friends at their home in Phoenix In honor of the Vis1' Friday afternoon Mrs. Edwin R. Durno and Mrs. William Mc Allister entertained for Mrs. Findley, Inviting members of the bridge club to which Mrs. Findley belongs and a few other friends of the honored guest. The party was at the Durno home, 1913 Hillcrest Road, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Trowbridge 1623 East Main street, were hosts at a small dinner party for the Findleys Friday evening. Captain Findley left last night to return to Hamilton Field while Mrs. Findley and the chil dren have gone to Salem to spend a few days with Captain Flndley's parents. 1 Rebekah Lodge Bond Purchase Is Authorized Olive Rebekah lodge members at the last regular meeting Mon day nigbj authorized the treas urer to purchase another bond in the name of the order. It Is pointed out that all Rebekah lodges have participated actively in bond campaigns and In other ways are helping the war effort. Mrs. Thelma Taylor, member of Queen of the Lake lodge, Up per Lake, Calif., was a visitor of the local group. Mrs. Taylor Is In Medford as a guest at the home of her sister, Mrs. Irene Shirley, and family. Mrs. Myrtle Newton, noble grand, presided over the session. Next meeting of the lodge, July 17, will be closed Installa tion with Mrs. Lottie Cave, dis trict deputy president, and her Installing team, in charge. Lintott of Roseburg, house guest last week end of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Strang, was the inspiration for an informal tea Monday after noon when Mrs. Strang Invited to her home on South Central avenue Eastern Star officers of Southern Oregon chapters- to meet her guest. Mrs. Lintott was installed as grand organist of the Grand Chapter of Oregon, Order of Eastern Star at the chapter session in Portland the middle of June. Invited to meet Mrs. Lintott were two other grand officers. Mrs. Lorena McNair of Ashland, grand conductress, and Mrs. Beulah Eabcr of Central Point Grand Adah. Also invited were Mrs Hope Wood, worthy mat ron of Reames Chapter, Med ford; Mrs. Louise Daugherty, worthy matron of Alpha Chap ter, Ashland; Mrs.' Jeannette Spencer, worthy matron of Adarel Chapter. Jacksonville; Mrs. Gladys Jewett, worthy matron of Nevita Chapter, Cen tral Point; and the officers of Reames chapter. Mrs. Pauline Bush sang several numbers, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Lintott, and Mrs. Wood was surprised to be pre sented with a candle lighted cake in honor of lier birthday, which occurred that day. Tea was served from a daintily appointed' table, the patriotic motif being carried out in the decorations. Dinner-Reception Held Friday Night For Church Pastor Dr. and Mrs. Louis C. Kirby were honored at a dinner and re ception given Friday evening at the Methodist church parlors by members of the church congre gation and friends. Dr. Kirby was recently reassigned to the church as pastor and is entering his fourth year with the local group. About 120 gathered for the pot-luck dinner. A musical pro gram was provided by Mrs. Elsie Carlton Strang, who sang, and by Glen Yost, accordionist. A welcome to the Kirby family was extended by Larry Swarm er and Dr. Kirby responded. The pastor also reported on the an nual conference, recently held in Portland, and on the general conference of the national church, held in May. Mayor Clarence A. Meeker re ported on the laymen's confer ence held In Portland at the same time as the church meet ing. Dessert-Bridge Is Given Friday By Mrs. Seekatz Mrs. A. A. Seekatz entertain ed at her home. 38 Geneva street, last week. The affair was a dessert-bridge party Friday afternoon and 16 friends attend ed the pleasant affair. Thj bride is a graduate of the Central Point high school with the class of 1943 and for, the past several months has been employed in the office of the Bear Creek orchards. She left Medford June 12 for Texas. Her home in Medford was at 305 Liberty street. - t Polings Are Hosts For Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. J. O. N. Poling were hosts Sunday, July 2 at their home on the Hillcrest Phoenix road at a dinner honor ing the Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Edgar and Mrs. J. Torrey of Ashland. The Rev. Edgar had been serving as pastor for the Phoenix Presbyterian church in the absence of the regular pas tor, the Rev L. H. Mitchelmore, the latter . having gone to Fir Point, near Glendale, O) -, for the summer conference. Mrs. Edgar and Mrs. Poling ere associated in presbyterial and synodical work for the Presbyterian church for several years and the dinner provided an opportunity for a reunion. Mrs. Torrey is Mrs. Edgar'g mother. Mrs. Minnie Bellinger To Entertain Circle Members of Queen Esther cir cle of the Methodist church will be entertained Tuesday after noon at the horrtfe of Mrs. Minnie Bellinger, 125 North Holly street, and will be preceded by a covered dish luncheon at one o'clock. Central Ave, Phone 4266 Club Organized At Grants Pass Picnic Meeting Eighty-seven former residents of the Beagle area gathered at the park in Grants Pass July 2 for an all-day picnic. A basket lunch was enjoyed at noon and John Peffley took pictures of the gathering while seated at the tables. Following lunch a Beagle club was organized, with Ray Bowen acting as president. Mrs. Charles Has was elected president, Mrs. Sadie Frink, vice-president and Mrs. Charlotte Sweet, secretary and treasurer. Remainder of the day was spent with games and swimming. Present were Mrs. Bessie Smith, Mrs. Blanche Sweet, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Sweet and sons, Mrs. Jane Sims, Mr. and Mrs. Sercyka and Adolph Schulr all of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. James Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Lor ing Martin and children and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Rush of Talent, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Per due and son and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Haas of Phoenix. Also Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Seeg miller and three grandchildren, Mrs. Maude Grant, Mrs. Pearl Grundeland, .
