Two Leave Leigh Eden of Medford and Paul Blumenstein of Central Point left Wednesday rlight for Monterey, Calif., to report for training in the army air corps. From Monterey the young men will go to Amarillo, Tex. Eden is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Eden, 211 Cenessee street, and Blumenstein's par ents are Mr. and Mrs. David Blumenstein of Central Point. Nephew Here Harold Groat of Albany, Ore., is in Medford to visit his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Hood of Sunset drive. His brother, Pfo. Herbert Groat, accompanied him as far as Medford yesterday morning and visiled with the Hoods brief ly before continuing on to Ft. Benning Ga. The soldier recent ly received his paratrooper wings at Ft. Benning and will continue training there. ... Reeeivei Wings Merlin Gor don Dow. son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean H. Dow of 31 North Holly street, was graduated from the army pilots' school at Marfa, Texas, June 23, and received his silver air corps wings, accord ing to a news release from the school. The new pilot completed a course in twin-engine aircraft and was assigned to the Marfa field from the LcMoore basic school in California. SGT. SHELLEY OF MEDFORD KILLED. Sgt. Parks Richmond Shelley, 20, who finished ahead of his class at Medford high school in December of 1942 in order to enter the army air forces, was killed in action in England on June 21. according to a telegram received yesterday from the ad jutant general by his motner. Mrs. Ethel S. Randies of 528 West llth street. No details were contained in the telegram, which said a letter was following. Sgt. Shelley, known to his many friends here as "Rich." wat a turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber based in Eng land. He had been overseas since May 12 ut this year. Joined In 1943 Active in athletics at Medford high, Sgt. Snelley joined the service early in 1943 and re- ceived training at Fresno, Cal.; ; Rentz, L. J. Schade, Lewell Du Hamilton Field. LAST CALL FOR A last call for young people wishing to attend the Salvation Army summer camp at Lake o' Woods was made today by Major Nettie Brown who stated that additional applications for the second period of camp, from July 13 to Julv 20. wnnlH ho !,I,on Monday, July 10, at Salvation' Army headquarters, c o r n e r ! Fourth and Bartlett streets. The first group of young people left for Camp July 6. The camp is for young people between the ages of 10 and 16 and applications will be received from Grants Pass, Ashland. Rogue River, Butte Falls and other towns adjacent to Med ford as well as from Medford proper, the major explained. Major Brown will return to Med ford from the Camp July-10 to take applications and will be at the headquarters after 11 a. m., she stated. Plans have been made to bring the Pribilof Aleuts back to their foggy native islands this spring and re-establish them in their homes, from which they were evacuated at the time the Japanese attack on Dutch Har bor. The nativer are skilled seal ers, trained in this work from infancy and they are needed for the sealing operations which will begin in the Pribilofs in May, according to the Fish and Wildlife service. Father Black's successor, Father Henry Orth of St. Paul, Ore., has not yet ar rived in Medford but is expect ed next week. DONALD SGOTT OF BUTIEjALLS DIES Donald Keith Scott, son of Mr. 'and Mrs- Keith Scott, passed I awav at h,e home ln But,e Falls at 8 P- m- Thursday at the age of 16. He was born in North Bend, Ore., October 29. 1927. He came to southern Oregon with his par ents about 12 years ago, living for about eisht years around j Eagle Point and the last four "years In Butte Falls. He com pleted his junior year in high! school there this spring. 1 Besides his parents he leaves two brothers and a sister: Leslie Scott, S 1c, Russell and Leitha. both at home; and his grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. J, Acker man, Salem, and Mrs. Estella Scott, Oakland, Calif. Services will be in Butte Falls church at 2 -p. m. Saturday with the Rev. R. E. Millard officiat ing. Pall hearers will be Percy Lee, Dan Hereford, Leland Coff man, Ted Nichols, Bobby Ellis and Joe Maddon, all school chums of the deceased at Butte Falls. Interment will be In Butte Falls cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Conger-Morris chapel.
