Inducted Inducted Into the army June 21 was Yoshio Fred Maruyama, It was announced to day by Local Selective Service Board No. 1. Paul Reed was in ducted into the army June 23. Approved for general service in tho army by pre-induction physi cal examinations recently were Edwa d Lewis Cate and John r:--k Collins. . Drunks Punished Charged with being drunk Tuesday, July 4, Stanley Birdsall, 50 and George Kerr, 48 posted $10 bail with city police. Robert J. Loucks, 28, charged with being drunk and disorderly Monday, posted $10 bail. Jean Vermillion, 36, charged with being drunk Tuesday, was fined $10 today. Examiner Coming A travel ing examiner of operators and chauffeurs will be in-the K. P. hall next Friday and Saturday between the hours of 9 a. m. and 5 p. m., according to an an nouncement from the secretary of state's office. All those wish ing permits or licenses to drive cars are asked to get in touch with the examiner during these hours. Kuk Leaves Earl A. Kurz, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Kurz of Rt. 2, who enlisted in the navy two weeks ago, has left for the naval training center at Farragut, Ida. Kurz has two older brothers in the service, Louis and Walter Kurz, and both are. In the Pacific. Mrs. Walter and Mrs. Louis Kurz and their children both reside In Medford. Visitors Here Mr. and Mrs. Dewey White of Vallejo, Calif., left Sunday after visiting here with Mr. White's cousin, Ray Minger and family of 2117 Capi tal avenue. Mr. White is em , ployed at the Mare Island ship yards. The Mingers report that the Whites are favorably im pressed with southern Oregon and are considering coming to this region to reside. To Honor Pastor The con gregation of the Methodist church has planned a fellowship dinner for Friday of this week which will honor Dr. L. C. 1 Kirby and family. Dr. Kirby has i been returned to the pastorate ' of the church for the coming, year. The dinner will be at 6:30 l p.m. in the social hall of the ; church. An Interesting program j and social hour are being plan ned. Wright Promoted Alden R.! Wright was recently promoted : from private first class to the j grade of corporal at his base "somewhere in England," ac-1 cordding to an announcement ! received from his commanding I officer. Parents of the young j man are Mr. and Mrs. Mark F. I Wright of Route 4, box 359. Cowan is an X-ray specialist at Treasure Island. Bryants Here Ensign Robert H. Bryant and his younger brother. Pvt. George Bryant of Ft. Riley, Kan., are both in Medfdrd to visit their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bryant, 1312 Keddy avenue. Pvt. Bry ant arrived last week and En sign Bryant arrived home Mon day. Ensign Bryant was grad uated recently from the navy's new school of indoctrination. Camp Macdonough, Plattsburg, New York. He attended Med ford senior high school, the Uni versity of Oregon and was given V-1Z training at U. C. L. A. Pvt. Bryant is attached to the cavalry student officers' detach ment at Ft. Riley as a mall clerk. He leaves Friday of this week while his brother will re main until the first of next week, leaving then for his new station at Miami, Fla. i TUIilng Mr. and Mrs. Lute M. Albern, air crew gunner, will soon complete an intensive course in combat flying at the Alexandria army area, accord ing to a news dispatch from the field. He is a member of a Fly ing Fortress crew. Cpl. Albern is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward C. Al! rn, 406 King srteet, and attended Medford high school. Visiting Here Dale Vincent, post photographer at Camp Ab bott for the past year, and his wife are visiting Mrs. Vincent's sister, Mrs. Crit Tolman of Gold Hill for. a few days before re turning to duty at some camp yet to be designated. Vincent was stationed at Camp White as a photographer for a time, and also once operated a studio in Medford. Ltava Mr. and Mrs. C. R. "ltus : nd children, Jerr- and -ob, left Medford June 26 for Texas where they expect to make their home. Mr. Titus, a veteran of this war, was with the 15th, Infantry Division in North Africa for nine months and was discharged last Septem ber because of an illnis. Mrs. Titus is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hake, 540 South Fir street. a Returns Home E. C. Wester gren returned to his' honie in Portland Sunday evening after visiting in Medford and vicinity for a week. He was accompanied here by his wife and two sons, Bardy and Charles, all of whom will remain in Medford for a time visiting Mrs. Westergren's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bardwell of 1002 S. Return Miss Virginia Sims and Miss Lee McGlothen return ed to Medford this morning from California where they spent several days visiting friends and relatives In San Francisco and Oakland. Arrives Overseas S-Sgt. Robert J. Carney has arrived at a 12th AAF base overseas for combat duty in the Mediterra nean area as a radio operator and gunner in a B-25 Mitchell bombed squadron, according to a press release from the base. Sgt. Carn-y, whose wife resides here at 206 Cottage street, was a bus driver for the Greyhound lines, San Francisco, prior to joining the army air forces in 1943. Transferred Aviation Cadet Gene C. Rae completed his course at Sikeston, Mo., and was recentl. ansferred to Indepen dence, Kan., for training in ad vanced pilot combat tactics, ac- crding to a letter received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Rae, 819 Bennett street. Cadet Rae stated that he would fly BT-14 and BT-1S plenes at the new field. Commissioned Second Lt. Lanar Coverstone graduated June 24 from the army airfield at Hondo, Tex., as a combat navigator and was commission ed a second lieutenant, accord ing to a news dispatch from the school. The navigation students spend 18 weeks at Hondo being trained to plot a plane's course by the stars, by radio, by com pass or by spotting a highway or railroad track. Lt. Coverstone is the son of Mrs. Ethel V. Cov erstone, 119 South Ivy street, and is at present home on leave. Frank LeRoy Barber, 2nd class Seaman in the United States navy for the past two years, passed away in the Naval Hospital at San Diego, Calif., on J' ly 4, due to a crushed nelvis. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barber, 618 McAndrews Road, this city. Remains with navy escort will be transferred to Medford for funeral services.
