Married Sunday
Medford's Methodist church
was the scene last Sunday of
the wedding of Miss Neidre Ny
gaard and Lt. Robert C. Duke,
the rites being read at three
o'clock in the afternoon by Dr.
Louis C. Kirby. The bride Is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
L. T. Nygaard, 36 Ashland ave
nue, and Lt. Duke is me son
of Mr. and Mrs. William M
Duke of Birmingham, Ala.
Preceding the ceremony Mrs.
William Browning sang "At
Dawning." with Miss Dorothy
Wilder at the organ. Miss Wilder
also played the wedding march
White gladioli, blue delphinium
and white carnations, arranged
with lighted candles In tall can
delabra, decorated the church.
Miss Nygaard's wedding gown
was of white organza, fashioned
with a full skirt and long train.
Her full length veil was held
with a coronet of seed pearls
and the bridal bouquet was of
white gardenias, roses and sweet
peas. The bridesmaid, Miss Caro
lyn Rose of Ashland, was gown-
ed In blue net and lace over
taffeta and carried pink carna
tions. Capt. F. L. Johnson was best
man for Lt. Duke and Capt. F.
R. Althouse. Lt. A. M. Withers,
Lt. F. A -Prime and Lt. R. W.
Knowles were ushers.
The reception was at the Ny-
' gaard home. The traditional
wedding cake, first cut by the
bride and groom, was then
served by Miss Jerrllee Lovejoy.
Mrs. F. L. Johnson poured and
Miss Virginia Bradfish assisted.
Lt. Duke and his bride are
residing in Medford for the pres
ent, the officer being stationed
a'. Camp White with the Service
Command Unit. He Is a graduate
. of the University of Alabama.
Mrs. Duke, a graduate of Med
ford senior high school, attend
ed the Southern Oregon College
of Education last winter.
Here for the wedding was
Mrs. Jessie Greenhood Of Los
Altos, Calif., a great-aunt of the
bride.

Details of the wedding of Miss
Betty Myers, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur B. Myers, 401
West Second street, to Gerald C.
Rood, USN, were announced in
Medford this week. Mr. Rood is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Rood, Bremerton, Wash.
The marriage took place May
9 at the First Baptist church in
San Diego, Calif., the candle-
light ceremony being read in the
Draper Chapel at 7:30 o clock in
the evening by Dr. John Bunyan
smith.
Miss Myers' wedding costume
was a suit of gold wool crepe
worn with navy blue and white
accessories and a corsage of gar
denias and sweetpeas. Miss Pa
tricia Ruskauff, Riverside, Calif.
was mald-of-honor and wore
green suit with white accessor
ies and a corsage of gladioli
Ralph Boernen, USN, San
Plcgo, was best man for the
groom.
Mrs. Helen Draws played the
wedding march and preceding
the service sang, her number be
ing the traditional "Because
Mr. and Mrs. Rood have taken
up residence In San Diego. Mr.
Rood being stationed at the
North Island naval air base as
an avl.-tion metalsmith second
class. Mrs. Rood, who graduat
ed from Medford high school
with the class of 1942, has been
employed at the base for the
past two years. The groom' Is a
graduate of the Pendleton, Ore.,

On Grand Chapter

aunt of Mrs. Hoppe. The visit

last meeting of Medford Bethel,
Daughters of Job, until fall,
Wednesday evening. The ses
sion also saw installation of
Mrs. Esther Sanderson of this
city as state grand librarian and
the local bethel council also giv
en office, the latter two being
conducted by Mrs. E. A. Brit
ton of Corvallis, state vice
grand guardian.
Miss Catherine Conroy, sister
of the new queen, presided as
Installing officer. She was as
sisted by the Misses Betty Frey,
guide; Betty Jean McKenzie,
marshal; Natalie Parker, chap
lain; Shirley Weisenburger, pi

Medford Groups 'Attend
Many State Conventions
State conventions are holding the attention of Medford peo
ple, with an unusually large number of lodges, churches and
patriotic groups having held their state meetings within the
last two weeks.
For the most part the state I
groups meet in Portland, but
Grants Pass yesterday and Fri
day entertained delegates to the
28th annual convention of the
Oregon State Elks association,
with many representatives from
Medford attending. Including
Ernest Scott, state secretary,
the past year. Oregon Disabled
American Veterans and the aux
iliary held the state meeting In
Roseburg this week, meeting
Wednesday and Thursday, and
with a large delegation from
here in attendance.
Medford delegates attended
the meeting of the Oregon De
partment, Women's Relief corps,
Auxiliary to the Grand Army
of the Republic, held in Port
land June 20, 21, and 22 at the
Masonic Temple. Guest of hon
or for the meeting was T. A.
Penland, last living member of
the Grand Army of Oregon.
Among those attending from
here was Mrs. Fred Lawrence,
president of the local corps..
Another patriotic group meet
ing was the Daughters of Union
Veterans of the Civil War which
held the 28th annual meeting
June 22 and 23. Miss Ora Cox,
Medford, national president of
the Daughters, was unable to
attend the Oregon convention
since she is in the middlewest
visiting groups there, presently
being in Bloomington, 111. She
returns to Medford about July
1. However, Dr. Susie . Stand
ard, department patriotic in
structor, and Mrs. Francis Bris
bine, local tent president, were
the Medford delegates.
Veterans of Foreign Wars
and the auxiliary met last week
in Portland, and included in
the new auxiliary officer is Mrs.
Mary Schultz, Medford, who
was named assistant guard. Mrs.
Marie Dana of Milwaukee is
new president of the auxiliary.
Delegates to the meeting of
the Oregon Grand Chapter,
O. E. S., held in Portland, have
returned home and Mrs. Ever
ett Faber, Central Point, a past
matron of Nevita chapter, was
installed as Grand Adah during
the sessions.
Oregon Methodists held the
annual conference in Portland
last week and one of the speak
ers was Mrs. Clarence Meeker,
Medford, a former national sec
retary of one of the women's
groups of the church.
. Delegates to the state meet
ing of the Lions club, and the
Lary Lions, starting in Portland
today, left Medford yesterday.
40th Anniversary

The Carpenter's son, Harlow,
was unable to go south for the
wedding since he reports tomor
row in Portland for enlistment
in the army's specialized train
ing reserve program.
