Fined $1 Charged with al lowing his dog to run at large, LeRoy Klumph of 1140 Court street was fined $1 in city court this morning. Wagon Stolen Mrs. W. R. Apple of 1013 West Ninth street reported to city police today that a large rubber-tired wagon was stolen off her front porch Sunday night. Corps To Meet The Volun teer Service Corps will hold a no-host spaghetti supper this evening at 7 at the Riverside USO. Election of officers will be held following the supper and a large attendance of corps members is desired. To Remodel W. R. Gammlll of 118 Willamette avenue ap- plied at the city building inspec tor's office Monday for a permit to make general remodeling to his house at a stated cost of $200. George Thomas of 309 South Newtown street applied for a permit to construct a pri vate garage at a stated cost of $200. V Club Meeting Jacksonville Garden Club will meet Thurs day at the home of Mrs. Doro thy Mills. Mrs. L. G. Gentner will report on the state conven tion and will give instructions for making summer corsages. She asks that members bring flowers from their gardens to work with. An invitation is ex tended to visitors. New officers for the coming year are to be Installed. To Convention A group of i Medford people are leaving to- .mnrrnw in atfpnH iha annual convention of the Oregon De partment, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Portland. In the group will be Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Can field, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Wall, Mrs. Geneva Hitt, Mrs. Richard Shulz and Mrs. Frances Zundel. Mr. Canfield is a past command er of the state department and Mrs. Hitt is president of the Med ford auxiliary. The convention will continue for three days. Newland Home Oswald W. Newland, machinist's mate sec ond class in the Seabees, ar rived home Saturday on a 10 day leave which he is spending J with his wife, Edna, and son, Dave, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Newland of 851 East Ninth street. Newland has been stationed on the Atlantic coast for about a year, the last seven month at Davisvillp, R. I. He is now stationed at Port Huene me, Calif., and arrived from there by plane. Newland is a graduate of Medford senior high school, having played football when Prink Callison coached. In Central Pacific Norris K. Porter, carpenter's mate first class in the Seabees, is now sta tioned on one of the Marshall islands in the Central Pacific according to letters received by relatives here. He entered the service a year ago and has been overseas since November. Mrs. Porter, who makes her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Drury, 1009 South Oakdale avenue, recently re ceived a clipping from the Hon olulu Star Bulletin of a poem written by her husband and published by the Bulletin May 27. Porter's parents are Dr. and Mrs. E. H. Porter, Rt. 1. ' To Speak Mrs. Clarence A. Meeker, 724 East Jackson boul evard, is leaving tonight for Spokane where she will attend the Pacific Northwest Confer ence of the Mcl.'e dist church. Mrs. Meeker Is on the program for the conference and will speak June 15. Returning to Portland, the Medford woman will then attend the Methodist conference of Oregon churches and will also speak. Mayor Meeker and his daughter, Elea nor, leave Saturday night for Portland where Monday the mayor will attend a meeting of the League cf Oregon Cities board, of which he is a director. Rich ard Wright has arrived in Eng land for overseas duty with the aaf, according to a news release from an air force service com mand station. Before entering the service, Lt. Wright was em ployed as a salesman by J. C. Penney company. Mrs. Wright makes her home at 514 Fran quette street. Son Born Mr. and Mrs. Charles Voorhles of Portland are the parents of a son born Sun day, June 11. The Infant weighed nine pounds and has been named Charles Howard. This is the fourth son. The child is a grand son of Mrs. Gordon Voorhics, Eden Valley orchard, and the late Colonel Voorhles, widely known residents of the valley. Peter, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Voorhles, is in Medford at present visiting his grand mother.
