Japs Say Invasion Following Plans of Nazi Command By United Press Tokyo radio, attributing Its information to German military headquarters, declared Thursday that continued Allied landings in France were exactly what "the original strategy of the German high command ' had planned. The Japanese broadcast, heard by United Press in San Francis co, explained it this way: "The original strategy of the German high command was to allow the invading forces to draw as far as possible to the German lines and then annihil ate them. "Fighting In northern France during the past two days is de veloping according to German expectations. "On the second day of the in vasion the enemy kept landing reinforcements and that is just what the Germans hoped for be cause the enemy casualties will be proportionately larger." INFANTICIDE TO DIE JUNE 30 IS DECISION Carson City, Nev June 9 U.R Raymond Plunkett, Ely, convicted of beating his live-months-old son to denth late In 1942, will die In the lethal gas chamber at the state prison here June 10, Warden Richard H. Shechy announced today. Sheehy fixed the date of exe cution after Judge Harry Wat son of the White Pine district court had resentenced Plunkett, whose appeal to the state su preme court was denied recently. Ivan will run elevators only until he is well enough to go back into the navy. He got safely through six ma)or engagements in the South Pa cific but not the seventh. A Jap bomb hit the ship between the first and second turrets. After that the ship didn't have a bow. , Ivan didn't get hit but be came a casualty of that disaster Just the same. For batteries, when submerged In salt water, create chlorine. And a lot of bat teries got submerged when the bow of the ship went down. The deadly gas swept through the ship and did terrible things to the boys' lungs. So Ivan was sent home. He says that when fighting is actually In process, the boys are too busy to be frightened, but frankly admits they're scared to death during the time they're on the alert, waiting for action. The fright starts when the radar reports the approach of the en- emy. It increases as the radar tells them the foe is nearer; then nearer. The boys' stomachs are hard knots. Then suddenly the enemy arrives and fear is gone; action takes Its place. Ivan Is 20. "Once, on shore leave, I got married. It didn't take." As he stated this, his eyes weren't 20; they were as old as Time. One engagement on land had aged those eyes mora than seven at sea. "Why did you get married?" I acked. "I-don't-know!" and I saw he was still puzzled over how it had come about. "It wasn't that I hadn't seen girls; we were In Australia for weeks and saw lots of them. I think when the boys get married, they don't marry the particular girl who takes their name. They marry a dream; a dream of someone to whom they'll really matter; to whom they'll be the most Important person on earth. In the navy you're not an Individual. The set up doesn't make that possible. "Also, when a fellow thinks of a girl, she gets mixed up with things like never being scared any more; a girl means no more gunfire; no more seeing the guy Beside you have his guts shot out. A girl isn't just a girl. She's your mother and the groceryman and Saturday night dances and stuff like that. So you marry her and find she Isn't those things at all." And I saw that while chlorine had hurt Ivan's lungs, it was nothing to what marriage had done to his heart. "Someone's calling on the sixth floor, Ma'am; sorry to leave you," said Ivan. METHODISTS IN FAVOR LOYAL JAP FREEDOM Sacramento, June 9 (U.R) The northern California confer ence of the Methodist church today went tn record favoring freedom of movement for aU "loyal" Japanese in the nation, including the right to return to the Pacific coast, church offi cials announced. Delegates to the conference, representing some 37S churches from Bakersfield north, voted approximately 425 to 75 in fa vor of giving loyal Japanese the same freedom of movement as "other Americans and aliens of other countries," the announce ment said. The first Victory Suggestion Award, the highest honor to be given a civilian employee of the War department for practical suggestions to speed the win ning of the war, was presented to Dayton H. Ludwig of the Office of the Chief of Transpor tation Army Service Forces for devising a new and improved method of loading army ord nance material on railroad flat cars.
