pect of having their "A" coupon
become worthless by the end of

In Bakersfield last night at a
meeting of the San Joaquin Val
ley Oil Producer association,
Ralph K. Davies, deputy ad
ministrator of the petroleum
administration for war, an
nounced that west coast gasoline
supplies would be barely suffi
cient for essential activities, '
He said there was not enough
oil to meet the colossal demands
of the military in the Pacific and
implied that "A" coupons would
have no value by the end of
1944.

British commando raids on one
of Germany's Island outposts off
the French coast and signs that
an Allied invasion of western Eu
rope was "relatively near" were
reported In Nazi broadcasts to
day. Simultaneously. American
troops were revealed to be re
hearsing with live bullets, bombs
and shells for the coming Inva
sion. The exorcist's were causing
real casualties, but high officers
were said to have adopted the
theory that It was better to lose
a few men todty than many to
morrow.
