Miss Betty Jean McKenzie will be installed honored queen. see To Maryland Pvt. Raymond Morris, recently taken into the army, has been sent to the ordnance replacement center, Aherdeen Proving Ground. Md.. where jie will receive his basic ! training. Pvt. Morris made his home in Medford at Rt. 4, Box 130, before going into the army. At Lowry Field Pvt. John Patterson Shurtleff is now sta tioned at Lowry Field, Colorado, and is being trained in photog raphy. Pvt. Shurtleff, who en . tered the army last June, gradu j ated from Medford high school ln 1933. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Shurtleff, now reside in Portland. - Teacher Here Mrs. Lyle Penny, the former Miss Ruth Luy of Medford, is here visiting friends. He is visiting his wife at 1027 East Jackson Blvd., and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Gibson, Sunset Ave. Gib son, who is stationed on a de- i stroyer, has been ia the navy nearly two years and this is his first visit home. Knapp Leaves Pvt. Kenneth Knapp left Sunday night for Ft. Ord, Calif., after spending a short furlough visiting friends and relatives in Medford. Until recently Pvt. Knapp was station ed at Camp Roberts, Calif. Pvt. ; Knapp, a former resident of Jacksonville, was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Werner and family, Lozier Lane, while here. In Hospital Mr. and Mrs. W. I. House of Fern Valley have re ceived word that their son, Cpl. Irvin E. House, is in Letterman General hospital in San Fran cisco with filariasisi Cpl. House has been serving with the avia tion signal service as radio en gineer in the Southwest Pacific for the past 14 months. Another son of the Houses, Sgt Don F. Steel SOW JEEPS DESTROYED IN FORT DOUGLAS FIRE Salt Lake City, Dec. 29 (U.R) Fire swept through two shops in the Salt Lake area early today and last night, destroying one building, seriously damag ing another and causing several thousand dollars damage. Fifteen to 20 jeeps, trucks and other vehicles and various pieces of shop equipment were burned in a blaze that destroyed a frame unit of the 9th service command ordnance shops at Fort Douglas. Another fire roared through the Utah Welders Inc. shops early this morning, causing an estimated $1,500 damage.
