Movie Contract VASTST08AGE I Roof Being Built Over 46 Acres Former Farmland; : Dozen Warehouses. - By Lloyd Tupllng . United Press Correspondent Auburn, Wash., Dee. 11 U.R) The task of building a roof over 48 acres of former farmland one of the world's lariust roof ing Jobs has been undertaken by the army, the lend-lease ad ministration and private, con tractors. t.The hug roof will provide storage space, for military sup plies before they are shipped overseas. But the 2,000,000 square feet of warehouse to be covered Is only part of the work going Into what Is known as the Auburn holding and reconsign frient point of the Transport Ulon Corps, Army Service Forces. . t As the length of the name In dicates, the Auburn H&RP and AAF depot Is a project of ome magnitude, and neither the army nor the contractors are letting any grass grow under thir feet to speed Its completion, In fact. In the three months since the work started, the en gineers have cleared all follarfe off the large area of lanj former ly made up of dairy, berry and vegetable farms, leveling a two-and-one-half-mlle long soace for construction of the depot. '. When completed, the depot will have 12 warehouses, each 839 feet long and 200 feet wide, more than 40 miles of railroad trackage to -provide freight car storage for approximately 1,400 cars, more than 40 acres of open and shed storage, and scores of buildings for administration of the vast supoly center. - Army officers conducting the , press tour left unanswered the question of what wou'd be put Into the warehouses and where It would go from here. They merely said It was to be used for storing "general military and lend-lease supplies" and all of It would be headed In one direction to hit the Axis. The warehouses are to be laid out In blocks three abreast across the depot area. Three air forces -warehouses will be situ ated at the south end of the installation, with the nine others grouped at the other end. Snace also will be left for addition of six more warehouses. -. It's a far cry from the government's projects of the 1930's - and there wasn't r wheelbarrow on the -whole Job. IN FIRST AID TO RT JANUARY 3 C. C. Haggard, Jackson county chairman of Red Cross first aid announced today that a first aid advanced course will start In the court house auditorium on Mon day, January 3, at 7 p. m. The course will consist of four 2li- hour meetings; the second meet ing to be held January 8 and the remaining two on the following January 10, and January 13 at the same time, 1 p.m. The course is open to both men and women who now bold stand aid first aid Red Cross certifl cttes, less than three years old. Instructor for the course will be auiounced later. All Interested ii Joining are asked to attend the first meeting or notify the Red Cross office, telephone 4408, this week. All Instructors of recent first aid classes are asked to notify their class list ot the op portunity. The advanced class will be fol lowed Immediately by an In structor's -course to be liven Jo uary 17 to 21, Inclusive, from 7 p. m. to 10 p. m. in the senior I high school auditorium. This I course will be taught by a field representrtlve from San Fran cisco.
