Ashcom of Johnstown, Penn., mi announced by the parent ttt the' bride-to-be. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Tumy, at a large cocktail party at the Colony Club Thurs day afternoon. No date haa been set for the wedding. , Mlsa Tumy graduated from the .University of Oregon last June, where she was a member of "Alpha' Delta PI sorority. Mr. Ashcom has completed the pre jnedlcal course at the Univer sity, where he was affiliated with Sigma Nu fraternity, and will complete his medical training at the Wayne University Medical school, Detroit, Mich., under the Wavy V-12 program. ! Mr. Ashcom has been visiting in Med ford for the past week nu left Saturday morning for Ban Francisco, having accepted n invitation to play with the fWest team in the annual East West football game there on New Year's Day. Miss Julie' Carpenter, entertained at 'dinner Friday night, the affair honoring Miss Deborah Tumy and her fiance, Richard C. Ash com.' Miss Tumy's engagement to Mr. Ashcom was announced ;last Thursday afternoon at a party given by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tumy. ' The affair was at the Carpen ter's home on the Old Stage iJtard. Guests were Miss Tumy, Mrs. William Donker, Miss Alicia Ruhl, Mrs. David Rankin, Mr. Ashcom, Capt. Marsh Allen, Lt. Charles Ferguson, Lt. Donald Schuster and Lt. Bob. Knowles.' Luncheon was served at 1 o'clock and was followed by a program, of Christmas music given by a 'quartet of girls from Medford senior high school. Singing were June Williams, Joyce Bateman. Oeorgle Graham and Doris Knut aon, accompanied by Miss Mir iam Burton, , Christmas presents from a dec orated tree -were exchanged by the members. Assisting Mrs. Gil strap as hostess were Mrs. C. J. Semon, Mrs. Robert Duff and Mrs. Kenneth Denman. l The January meeting of the group will be at the home of Mrs. S. I. Phillips, Big Boulder Orchard. Business Women Entertain Nurses For Yule Party . Sixteen army nurses from Camp White were guests of the Medford Business and Profes sional Women's club for the an nual Christmas party held Thursday night at the Girls' Community club. The club rooms wore decorated with greenery and each member brought two toy gifts which were placed around the tree. Club members and the nurses played games and sang Christ mas carols. The toys, after be ing opened and enjoyed for the party, are to be distributed to the Medford nursery school and the Recreation Center at the Jackson County Housing pro ject Refreshments, which car ried out the holiday motif, were served by the committee Composed of Mrs. Eva Judd, .chairman, Mrs. Maude Snider nd Mrs. Marjorie Hopkins. t Nurses present for the party "Were Capt. Tournaments Postponed Until Alter Holidays . No meetings of the Medford Duplicate. Bridge club will be held this week or next because of the holidays, but tournament play will be resumed Tuesday evening. Jan. 4, according to Wil liam Isaacs, president of the club. Club members have been play ing each Tuesday evening at the Medford hotel for the past sev eral weeks. Mrs, Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Louis Older, 813 Cntherlne St., is well known in Medford. Officers' Wives Christmas Party Is Held Tuesday Medical Department Officers' Wives of Camp Whit held a Christmas party Tuesday, De cember 14, In the home of Mrs. Frank T. Chamberlin on Oakdale Avenue. Ladles of the 185th General Hospital, headed by Mrs. C. B. Woods, were in charge of the arrangements that made this a most pleasant affair.,. Mrs. J. B. Hcmmingcr, Mrs. D. L. Hitch ens, Mrs. E. L. Meyer, and Mrs. J, R. Muessr assisted Mrs. Woods. The'-house was decorated throughout with evergreens and red berries and on the tea table a basket of fruit, flanked, by logs holding red candles, formed a centerpiece of unusual beauty. The basket was a gift of tha organization to their president, Mrs. Chamberlin, in whose home monthly meetings are held. Before the exchange of gift placed under a blue and silver decorated Christmas tree by the members, Mrs. Herbert L. Mat tox entertained with piano selec tions. Her playing later led the group In tha singing of Christmas carols. During tha tea hour, whan Mrs. Clarence Reese and Mrs. James Hepplawhlta poured, the guests were entertained by Juno Williams and Roger Wolf, the former singing an appealing group of seasonal songs, accom panied by Mrs. Royal E. Bebb at the piano. ' ", Young Wolf delighted his au dience with a program of clns- slcal piano music followed by clever arrangements of popular tunes. ' The next regular luncheon meetings will be held on Tues day, January 11. Between these monthly social gutherings the medical wives give many hours of volunteer work In - making surgical dressings for use In the Camp White Station Hospital. Visitors In Medford Mr. and Mrs. Roy Myers and daughter, Mrs. Percy Culling of Reglns, Sask., Canada, are In Medford visiting at the home of Mr. Myers' brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. C. E.. Myers, 17 Ross Court. The visitors are leaving Monday for Pasadena. Calif., where they will spend the winter wltH relatives. Gilbert Ruozi on Wednesday, Dec. 8, the wedding taking place at the home of the bride's parents. The,, service was held at 8 o'clock In the evening and was read by the Rev. D. E. Millard of Shady Cove. An arch of greenery with white and pink chrysanthemums was arranged as a background for the brlda! party and flowers and white tapers were used to decorate the home. Little Char mayne Charley played a violin solo preceding the ceremony and Mrs. D. E. Millard played the wedding march. Miss Hoefft, given In marri age by her father, wore a gown of white satin fashioned with a full skirt and long train. Her veil was of silk net, held with a cap of the same material, and her flowers were a snower bouquet of white carnations and maidenhair fern. Attending the bride were Mrs. Orville Van Dorfy. as matron-of-honor, nd Mrs. Nel Ballard. Mrs. van Dorfy wore a corai pink brocaded satin gown and carried a bouquet of white rose buds and chrysanthemums. Mrs. Ballard's dress was a blue bro caded satin, and she carried a bouquet of yellow chrysanthe mums. Little Sharon Darlene Van Dorfy, dressed in blue ruf fled taffeta, was flower girl. The brides mother wore a dark velvet dress, with a gar denia corsage. Orval 'Van Dorfy, uncle of the bride, was best man for Pvt. Ruozt, and Neil Ballard was usher. A reception was held follow ing the ceremony. Pvt. , and Mrs. Ruozi cut the first slice of wedding cake. Assisting at the reception were Mrs. Cliff Day, Mrs. Wesley Householder and Miss Virginia Pech, all gowned In floor-length dresses of pastel shades. During the reception vocal numbers were given by the Rev. Millard and Miss Vio let Moore of Medford. Eighty guests attended the wedding and reception. ' Pvt. -and Mrs. Ruozi are on a wedding trip to California and while away - will visit- Pvt. miosis parents in Bakersfleld. Upon returning they will, make their , home in . Albany, Pvt. Ruozi being stationed at Camp Adair. 'The bride attended Eagle Point high school, graduating with the class of 1042. She is well known in the valley, hav ing been born and resided all her life In the' Lake Creek dis trict. . . , , . Pythian Sisters Plan Watch Party A "watch party" for New Year's eve is being planned by th Pythian Sisters lodge. The party is to be at the K. of P. hall and. will begin at 8 p. m. Dancing and cards are being planned by th committee which is made up of Mrs. Ida Ireland, Mrs. Harry Barneburg, ivirs. Alice Bllderback and Mrs. William Swarti. . Knights, Pythian Sisters and their invited friends will attend the party. 1 Degree el Honor Club Elects New Officers . Regina Mark was elected president of the Degree of Honor Juvenile club at the regular club meeting held Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Presbyterian church. De lorls Jarvis, retiring chairman, presided at the meeting. Billy Walters was Initiated into the club and plans made fo" the Christmas party. A program of Christmas music was given by Bertha and Freddie Miller and Shirley Leh man was presented a prize. Re freshments were served at the close of the afternoon. Mrs. Ida M. Wilson, director, was assist ed during the meeting by Mrs. ftamerlne smith. Jeanne Leverette Will Wed Officer In Church Service Announcement of th betrothal of Miss Jeanne Leverette, daugh ter of Mrs. Alice Leverette, 811 South Oakdale Ave., and Walter Leverette, to Major George C. Kotchlk, 81st Infantry Division, Camp Adair, was mad yester day by Miss Leverette' mother. The wedding will be an event of January 3 at St, Mark's Epis copal church here. Major Kotchlk, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kotchlk of Port land, holds both'bachelor of sci ence and master of science de grees in architecture from the University of Oregon and fol- lowing his graduation from the university In 1834 travelled and studied In Europe for a year. At the university he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Miss Leverette graduated from Medford senior high school and later from Prlncipia College in St. Louis. Mo. Following her graduation she was employed in Los Angeles and for the past several months has made her home again in Medford with her mother. Service Club Two Announces Dances An Interesting program of holiday activities has been plan- nca ior service ciud No. 2 at Camp White and highlighting the days will be two formal dances. The first will be Thurs day, Dec. 23, and the second is scheduled for Friday, New Year's Eve. The SCU orchestra will play for both dances and a floor show will be given New Year's Eve. Girls of the valley are spec ially invited to attend these holi day dances and the club hostess es state that while the dances are scheduled as formal affairs young women may wear infor mal clothes if they so desire Special permission has been given for Women's Army Corps members to attend the dances In formal dress, rather than uni forms. N. Agee, both of Medford, is of much Interest here. The rites took place December 12 at St. An-, thony's Catholic church in Long Beach, ' Calif., and the couple remained there for several days. Both Mr. and Mrs. Agee have lived here many years and are widely known. Mr. Agee, man ager for the Medford Stationery store for a considerable time, is now retired from business. Mrs. Agee. has been prominent in the city's church and social activi ties during her 20 years of resi dence in Medford. , Mr. and Mrs. Agee will be at home to their friends after Jan uary 1 at S18 South Oakdale Ave. Lodges to Have Christmas Party ' Medford's I. O. O. F. and He bekah lodges will hold the an nual Christmas party for the children of members and their Invited guests Wednesday, Dec. 22 at the lodge hall. This affair is planned each year as a treat for the children and Santa Claus will be on hand to distribute gifts. A program of songs and readings by the children will be piesented. The party Is scheduled for 8 p. m. 1 . Van Valsahs to Leave For Christmas Holiday. Dr. and Mrs. C. G. Van Val zah and three children are plan ning to leave Dec. 23 to spend the Christmas holidays with the doctor's, mother, Mrs. A. B. Van Valzah, in Springfield, Ore. They plan to be gone about a week. Adam sa BP 1 Fidelity Circle Luncheon Given At Younger Home Fidelity Circle of the Flrstl Methodist church was enter tained in the home of Mrs. L. N. Younger, 811 West Eighth St.. Tuesday, for a pot-luck- luncheon and holiday party. Members of Priscilla Circle and several other guests were also entertained for the affair. During a business session, pre sided over by Mrs. F. S. Brandon, reports were given on tha mis sionary work carried on by the circle and greetings from former members were read. A program of Christmas music and other numbers was enjoyed. Mrs. Jes sie Beery gave tha Christmas story and Christmas hymns were sung during the devotional pe riod. Mrs. Hill provided accom paniment for th songs. - A Bible quts was won by Mrs. Beery, Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Lyman sang a duet and Mrs. Chew read a poem.
