Cadet on Visit Aviation Cadet Douglas Eden arrived In Medford yesterday for a brief visit at the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Eden. 211 Genessee St. Cadet Eden finish ed a course In aerial gunnery at Las Vegas Monday and was awardeci his wings. He reports Dec. 24 to the AAF field at Al V buquerque, N. M., for his ad vanced bombardier's trainljg. Cadet Eden will leave Medford Tuesday. i Suffers Fall Mrs. W. J. Paske, mother of Dr. C. H. Paske, suffered a fall at the Paske home, 1010 S. Oakdale avenue, early this morning, and Is reported to have sustained a broken collar bone and possible broken ribs and other injuries. Mrs. Paske fell down several . stairs from the second story. She was at the Paske home at noon today, but was expected to be moved to a local hospital for treatment this afternoon. Minor Accidents Wallace R. Casebeer, Rt. 1, Box 521, and Mrs. Richard A. Penney company, store here has been recuperating the past week at his home in the Table Rock district from slightly frost ed feet and exhaustion incurred on a truck trip last Sunday to the Diamond Lake area with Gunnar Dale, a jock mason. The trip was made to procure a load oi root with heat resisting qual ities for a fireplace. The gears of the truck were stripped and Baker and Dale walked 24 miles through cold and snow rather than remain in the open all night On the exhausting hike Bak er's feet became chilled and he also suffered from leg muscle cramps. They finally reached a cabin in the Union Creek dis trict, where they found shelter warmth and food. Baker thought the cabin belonged to friend, but later learned it is owned by a man my the. name of Hart. First aid was administered to Baker. Monday, Deputy Sheriff Dewey s. Hill of Prospect start ed a search for the two men and located them in the cabin. They were, returned to Prospect, and 'ater to this city. The truck was hauled to Prospect during the week. Baker, now fully recovered, expected to be able to return to the store today. THE GRANGE Sams Valley Grange Next regular meeting of Sams Valley Grange will be a covered dish supper and Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 18, at the hall. The supper is scheduled for 7:30 p. m. and those attend ing are asked to bring a gift costing not more than 23 cents for the tree. R. W. Coleman, who resigned as pastor of the First Christian church In Medforo last June to work with the army and navy department of the national Y.M.C.A., yesterday received word of his appointment as na tional director of the Christian emphasis work of the depart ment. He Is to succeed the Rev. Marion J. Creeger of New York City, who after a visit to Med ford last spring selected Rev. Coleman as one of 12 regional workers for ther new Christian emnhasis program. Since leaving Medford last June, Rev. Coleman has resided in San Francisco and has carried on the new pro warn through USOs of the southwest region of the nation. As national direc tor of the proeram, he will have headnuarters in New York City and the family will leave soon for the east coast. Supervisor Here Word of the new appointment was received in Medford this morning by Ralph Scott, regional supervisor cf the armv and naw denartmen of the "Y," who Is in Medford to visit the Riverside USO and confer with the staff. During his several years resi dence here, the Rev. Coleman was active in various religious and civic circles. After the start of the war and establishment of Camp White, he formed the first coordinating council for recrea tion activities, was a member of the Jackson County Recreation committee, was chairman of the first operating committee of the Riverside USO and on the board of the Medford war nursery school. The Rev. Creeger has accepted a new position with the federal Council of Churches of Christ of America. OBITUARY . WM. A. BROWN Wm. Andrew Brown passed away In a local hospital early Thursday morning at the age of 83. He was born in Missouri on April 19, 1860. At the age of 18 he ran a freight wagon between Roseburg, Medford and Klamath Falls. He bad lived In this com munity for 68 years. Surviving are six children: Mrs. Bertha Pollard. British Columbia; Chester A. Brown, Medford; Wm. Ernest Brown, Eugene; M. Owen Brown, Red mond; Archie M. Brown. Sisters, Ore., and Mrs. Mary E. Hein, Prineville. There are also 82 grandchildren. - Services will be In the Con ger Chaoel Saturday at 10:30 a. m., with the Rev..C. W. Frost officiating. The remains will be taken to Redmond Tuesday for interment. OTIS HIRAM HILL. JR. Otis Hiram Hill,, Jr., infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis H. Hill, passed away in a local hospital Thursday. The father Is In the U. Jobe, 36, a resident of Butte Falls for the past 20 years, passed away In a local hospital Thursday. Four children survive: Valley Jobe, Brownfleld, Tex.; Craft Jobe, Vernon, Tex.; Charlie Jobe, Sherwood, Ore., and Mrs. J. L. Cassey, Medford. . (U.B A 36th division truck driver found the body of his brother on a battle field in Italy. In a letter homt to Houston relatives, Harry 8 Satterwhlte said the one-in-a million incident gave him the "greatest shock of my life." He wrote the letter shortly after dis covering his brother, Sgt. John L. Satterwhlte of the paratroops, dead on an Italian battlefield.
