Earlv proprietor of the Holland Hotel, were elected president and vice president, respectively, of the Medford Kiwanls club at the an nual election held December 7. Other officers elected were, Paul McDuffee, secretary, and Harold Brown, E. J. Feldman, Glen l, Fabrlck. Frank W. Humphrey Victor W. Milncs, Frank Perl nd Leslie Ternahan, directors During the meeting Brigadier General Amos Thomas, com manding officer of Camn White, was presented with a check for 8164.39 by Kiwanlan Ernest B DeVoe, the sum being the net proceeds of the army football games recently held at the high cchool athletic field, uenerai Thomas expressed his apprecla tlon for the efforts put forth by the Kiwanis club In sponsoring the games and stated that the money would be put to good use in the Camp White athletic fund. Chief speaker for the evening was Frank Hull, manager of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, who gave a resume of the accomplishments of the ' chamber during 1043 and pre dicted that 1044 would see con tinued growth in this section of the country. AS SCOUT LEADER Charles B. Warner, executive head of Crater Lake Area Coun cil, Boy Scouts of America, ten dered his resignation - to the council at the annual meeting held last Sunday, he announced Saturday. Mr, Warner, whose 'resignation becomes effective Saturday has accepted a position on the staff of Fluhrer'i Bakery. Mr, Warner came to Medford In January to assume the du ties of Scout executive. Green, assistant executive, will carry on the work. In submitting his resignation, Mr. Warner also reported on ac tivities of the local Boy Scouts tor the past year, and thanked Scout leaders for their coopera tion. Lone Pine School Patrons To Meet A special school board meet ' lng will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 8 p. m., at Lone Pine Khoolhouse for the purpose of securing a bus to transport the children to high school. Army and Navy recruiting stations of Medford Saturday ex presed appreciation and thanks to local business men who co operated in making .the Army Navy dance Friday evening a success. The undertaking was made possible through material and financial support of local merchants, including Ray Shot- maker who donated the dance hall, and Valentine's Cafe and the Medford Military Tailors who provided printing. A capacity crowd attending danced to music of the 96th Di vision dance band directed by Chief Warrant Officer Shetney Special numbers were presented by band members. Sgt.- Jim Dunlevy, who presided as mas ter of ceremonies during Inter mission presented WACS from Camp White who staged a pro gram high-lighted by a fashion show modeling different unl forms worn by WACS. A short address by Herb Crain of the navy recruiting office stressed the need of women in the armed forces, EDWIN L JOHNSON EX-RESIDENT, ... Edwin L. (Ole) Johnson, petty officer first class in the navy died December 8 in the Nava' hospital at Bremerton, Wash. following an operation, accord lng to word received here Satur day. Johnson was connected with the Shell Oil Co. here for several years, leaving about thre years ago' to work for the same company at McMlnnvllle, Ore. Besides his wife, Eloise, for merly with the telephone com pany here, and his daughter Carol, Johnson is survived by his mother, Mrs. Laura John son, snd sister, Mrs. Ruth Fletcher, of Salem; sisters, Mrs. Edna Bebgner and Mrs. Mabie Erlckson of Prlneville, Mrs. Alia Dolan of Portland, and brothers.
