156 HEREFORDS SOLD IN ANNUAL i SHOW, AUCTION The annual California-Oregon Hereford Breeders Association (how and auction at Klamath falls October 31 and November I considered the most success ful in history, saw 156 head of registered cattle sold at an aver age of $447.50 each, with the top 10 bringing an average of $1,800, according to John Day, owner of the Blue Moon rnach and a member of the sales com mittee. The average sale price of 132 bulls was $460, and and for 24 females was $383.75, Day said. The grqnd champion bull, Arthur Domino 8th, bred by ierb Chandler of Baker, was Psold to W. A. Serruys of Klam ath Falls for $4,100. The re serve champion bull, S. and M. Defender 3rd, bred by Smith and Freeman of Washington, was sold to Maxine Liskey of Klamath Falls for $4,000. The top female of the show, Lady Mark 6th, consigned by Chandler, was sold for $2,000 to Cecil B. Haley of Bonanza. Another high price was brought by Royal Lad 13th, which was sold by Smith and Freeman to Leonard Meschke of Tule Lake, Calif., for $2,025. The top pen of five bulls, con signed by the Horton Hereford ranch, Klamath Falls, went to Con Lynch of Lake view at an average of $453 each. V, Day reported there was much enthusiasm at the show and auc tion and that a great many cattle ranchers were able to acquire fine herd bulls at the sale. BI0FF THREATENED . Selling developed when early firmness on the Republican gains in yesterday's elections failed to develop new support for the list. Also working against the market were the coal strike which was threaten ing early curtailment of steel production; results of the Mos cow conference which were construed favorably for the war effort but unfavorably for the market in that it might hasten the war's end, and uncertainties of the transition period.
